Abstract

A method for indicating a system health status includes steps of selecting data to be monitored (102), monitoring the data (104) to obtain a monitored data distribution (106) that includes first non-zero digits of data values, obtaining a correlation value between the monitored data distribution and a Benford distribution and providing a system status indication based on the correlation value. If the correlation value is lower is higher than a given value the system is deemed healthy (108). Otherwise, the system is deemed as having potentially an impending malfunction, failure or unexpected behavior (110).
