Abstract
A method of manufacturing tungsten electrode rods for a gas discharge lamp, comprising the following steps: aiming a plurality of laser beams in radial direction at the axis of an as-drawn tungsten wire from evenly distributed positions on a circle around the wire, wherein the pulse duration and power of the laser beams are chosen such that a constriction of the wire at said location is obtained without the laser beams cutting through the wire; and breaking the wire into separate electrode rods.
