Field of the Invention
The invention pertains to workstations with a sink unit.
Background of the Invention
Homeowners use a water hose with a hand operated nozzle unit for a variety of tasks including watering their gardens, car washing, and the like. Some homeowners install wall mounted hose organizers for conveniently storing coiled water hoses adjacent a faucet. Exemplary prior art references illustrating and describing hose organizers include inter alia US Patent No. 4,436,267 to Eads et al, US Patent No. 6,488,240 to Brooker et al., and US Design Patent No. D408,270 to Tisbo et al.

Summary of the Invention The present invention is directed towards workstations with a sink unit and a hose organizer for storing a coiled water hose adjacent thereto, and also workstations with a sink unit for removable mounting on a hose reel cart, and hose reel carts including same. The workstations preferably include at least one nozzle unit retaining device for hands free removably mounting a water hose's nozzle unit over their sink units. The workstations with a sink unit and a hose organizer can be wall hanging, freestanding, and the like. The workstations are
simple in construction, effective and versatile for indoor and outdoor purposes, and economical to manufacture using conventional manufacturing techniques.

Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments of the Invention Figures 1 and 2 show a wall hanging rigid plastic workstation 10 with a sink unit 11 and an integrally formed hose organizer 12 with a U-shaped channel 13 for storing a coiled water hose 14 widthwise behind the sink unit 11. The water hose 14 has opposite hose ends 14A and 14B for respective sealed
connection to a faucet 16 and attachment to a hand operated nozzle unit 17. The hand operated nozzle unit 17 typically includes an adapter 18 permanently attached to the open end 14A and a nozzle 19 for quick release attachment to the adapter 18. The nozzle 19 has a thumb operated button 19A for selectively spraying water. The hand operated nozzle unit 17 can include a snap fit connection, a screw connection, and the like.
The workstation 10 includes an upright rear panel 21 with a hollow construction including a rear wall 22 formed with spaced apart keyhole-like apertures 23 for hanging the workstation 10 on a wall, and a front wall 24. The workstation 10 includes an upright front panel 26 forward of the upright rear panel 21 and a widthwise directed horizontal support surface 27 between the rear panel 21 and the front panel 26 raised with respect to the sink unit 11. The support surface 27 preferably has a front cutout 27A to . facilitate access to the sink unit 11, and a pair of downwardly sloping opposite ends 27B for supporting spaced apart top sections of the coiled water hose 14. The workstation 10 is formed with a pair of upright hose supports 28 forward of the support surface 27 and at its opposite ends 27B for defining the hose organizer's upright U-shaped channel 13. The U-shaped channel 13 can retain different items other than a coiled hose, for example, a basket 29, and the like. The sink unit 11 includes the front panel 26, a basin 31, a drain 32 and a plug 33, and a U-shaped surround 34 including a front rim 36, a left side portion 37 and a right side portion 38 formed with a horizontal work surface 39 adjacent the basin 31. The work surface 39 can be smooth, ribbed, and the like. The front panel 26 can be formed with an aperture 41 for insertion therethrough of a wall mounted faucet. The left side portion 37 is formed with a nozzle unit retaining device 42 for hands free removably retaining the nozzle unit 17 over the sink unit 11. The nozzle unit retaining device 42 includes a nozzle unit support 43 raised with respect to the surround 34 and having an inclined surface 44 facing the sink unit 11. The inclined surface 44 is formed with a throughgoing aperture 46 for
retaining the nozzle unit 17. A basket-like organizer 47 can be removably mounted on the right side portion 38.
A user hangs the workstation 10 adjacent a faucet 16 or alternatively with a faucet protruding through the aperture 41. The user attaches the hose end 14A to the faucet 16. The user detaches the nozzle 19 from the adapter 18, slides the nozzle 19 through the throughgoing aperture 46 and re-attaches the nozzle 19 to the adapter 18. The user can use the hose 14 to fill the basin 31, to wash items under the- nozzle unit 17, and the like.
Figure 3 shows the workstation 10 can be optionally used with a discrete nozzle unit adapter 48 to avoid having to repeatedly connect and disconnect the nozzle unit 17 each time a user wants to use a water hose for other purposes. The nozzle unit adapter 48 includes an elongated member 49 having a first operative end 51 and a second operative end 52 remote from the first operative end 51. The first operative end 51 has a cylindrical member 53 for sliding insertion into the throughgoing aperture 46 and the second operative end 52 has a slotted hollow cylindrical grip 54 with a longitudinal directed slot 56 for snap fit receiving a nozzle unit 17 therein. The nozzle unit adapter 48 secures a nozzle unit more to the left than the nozzle unit support 43 thereby facilitating access to the sink unit 11. Figure 4 shows a workstation 60 similar in construction to the workstation
10 and therefore similar parts are likewise numbered. The workstation 60 has a left side portion 37 includes a nozzle unit retaining device 61 with a generally U- shaped recess 62 with a clamping insert 63 having an inwardly directed slit 64 for removably friction fit clamping a nozzle unit 17 therein. The clamping insert 63 can be formed from foam, elastomer material, and the like, for gripping different sized and shaped nozzle units.
Figure 5 shows a workstation 65 similar in construction to the workstation 10 and including a discrete hose organizer 66 for removably mounting on the horizontal support surface 27 thereby dispensing with the pair of upright hose supports 28. The hose organizer 66 includes a pair of opposite side walls 67 and
a web 68 therebetween for defining an upright U-shaped channel 69 for storing a coiled water hose widthwise behind the sink unit 11. The workstation 65 can be used with a nozzle unit adapter 48 or alternatively be formed with a nozzle unit retaining device 61. Figure 6 shows a wall hanging workstation 70 similar in construction to the workstation 10 and including a hose organizer 71 for storing a coiled hose 14 alongside its sink unit 11 as opposed to widthwise therebehind. The workstation
70 has a generally rectangular surround 72 including a front rim 73, a left side portion 74, a right side portion 76, and a rear rim 77 opposite the front rim 73. The left side portion 74 is provided with a pair of nozzle unit retaining devices 42 for retaining a nozzle unit 17 adjacent the hose organizer 71. The nozzle unit retaining devices 42 are disposed towards its front rim 72 and its rear rim 76. The hose organizer 71 can be integrally formed with the sink unit 11 or removably mounted thereon. Alternatively, the workstation 70 can be formed with one or more nozzle unit retaining devices 61.
Figure 7 shows a hose reel cart 80 including an inverted U-shaped frame 81 including a pair of wheel mounted upright supports 82 and a crossbeam 83. The frame 81 includes left and right hose reel supports 84 for rotatably supporting a hose reel 86 with a water hose 87 under the crossbeam 83. The hose reel supports 84 have a U-shaped member 88 for raising the hose reel 86 above ground level such that the water hose 87 can be freely coiled onto the hose reel 86 and uncoiled therefrom.
The hose reel cart 80 includes a workstation 89 having an upright rear panel 91, and a sink unit 92 including at least one nozzle unit retaining device 42 or 61. The rear panel 91 has a hollow construction including a rear wall 93, and a front wall 94, and a central recess 96. The rear panel 91 is intended to be slidingly mounted on the frame 81 for disposing the workstation 89 above the hose reel 86. The sink unit 92 is preferably provided with a drain hose 97 for draining water. Workstations 89 can be shaped and dimensioned to be mounted
on commercially available hose reel carts 80. Alternatively, hose reel carts 80 can be provided with permanently attached workstations 89.
While the invention has been described with respect to a limited number of embodiments, it will be appreciated that many variations, modifications, and other applications of the invention can be made within the scope of the appended claims.
Claims
1. A workstation for use with a water hose having a hand operated nozzle unit, the workstation comprising a sink unit having a basin with a drain, and a surround with a front rim and a pair of opposite side portions, and a hose organizer with an upright U-shaped channel for storing a coiled water hose adjacent said sink unit.
2. The workstation according to claim 1 wherein said hose organizer stores the coiled water hose widthwise behind said sink unit.
3. The workstation according to claim 2 wherein said workstation includes an upright rear panel, a widthwise directed horizontal support surface forward of said upright rear panel and raised with respect to said sink unit, and a pair of spaced apart upright hose supports at opposite ends of said support surface for defining said upright U-shaped channel.
4. The workstation according to claim 2 wherein said workstation includes an upright rear panel, and a widthwise directed horizontal support surface forward of said upright rear panel and raised with respect to said sink unit for removably supporting a discrete hose organizer widthwise above, and behind said sink unit.
5. The workstation according to claim 1 wherein said hose organizer stores the coiled water hose alongside a side portion of said surround' s opposite side portions.
6. The workstation according to claim 5 wherein said hose organizer is a discrete item for removable mounting alongside said side portion.
7. The workstation according to any one of claims 1 to 6 wherein said sink unit includes at least one nozzle unit retaining device for hands free removably retaining the nozzle unit over said sink unit.
8. The workstation according to claim 7 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device is toward said front rim.
9. The workstation according to claim 7 wherein said surround includes a back rim and a nozzle unit retaining device is formed along one of said opposite side portions toward said back rim.
10. The workstation according to any one of. claims 7 to 9 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a nozzle unit support raised with respect to said surround and including a throughgoing aperture for retaining the nozzle unit.
11. The workstation according to claim 10 and further comprising a discrete nozzle unit adapter with an elongated member having a first operative end for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and a second operative end remote from said first operative end for removably securing the nozzle unit in said nozzle unit adapter for hands free removably mounting the nozzle unit over said sink unit.
12. The workstation according to claim 11 wherein said first operative end includes a cylindrical member for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and said second operative end includes a slotted hollow cylindrical grip for snap fit receiving the nozzle unit therein.
13. The workstation according to any one of claims 1 to 7 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a generally U-shaped recess in a side portion of said pair of opposite side portions with a clamping insert for removably friction fit clamping the nozzle unit therein.
14. A workstation for use with a water hose having a hand operated nozzle unit, the workstation comprising a sink unit having a basin with a drain, and a surround including a front rim and opposite side portions wherein said surround has at least one nozzle unit retaining device for hands free removably retaining the nozzle unit over said sink unit. .
15. The workstation according to claim 14 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device is toward said front rim.
16. The workstation according to claim 14 wherein said surround includes a back rim and a nozzle unit retaining device is formed along one of said opposite side portions toward said back rim.
17. The workstation according to any one of claims 14 to 16 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a nozzle unit support raised with respect to said surround and having a throughgoing aperture for retaining the nozzle unit.
18. The workstation according to claim 17 and further comprising a discrete nozzle unit adapter having an elongated member with a first operative end for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and a second operative end remote from said first operative end for removably securing the nozzle unit in said nozzle unit adapter for hands free removably mounting the nozzle unit over said sink unit.
19. The workstation according to claim 18 wherein said first operative end includes a cylindrical member for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and said second operative end includes a slotted hollow cylindrical grip for snap fit receiving the nozzle unit therein.
20. The workstation according to any one of claims 14 to 16 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a generally U-shaped recess in a side portion of said pair of opposite side portions with a clamping insert for removably friction fit clamping the nozzle unit therein.
21. The workstation according to any one of claims 14 to 20 and further comprising a hose organizer with an upright U-shaped channel for storing a coiled water hose adjacent said sink unit.
22. The workstation according to claim 21 wherein said hose organizer stores the coiled water hose widthwise behind said sink unit.
23. The workstation according to claim 22 wherein said workstation includes an upright rear panel, a widthwise directed horizontal support surface forward of said upright rear panel and raised with respect to said sink unit, and a pair of spaced apart upright hose supports at opposite ends of said support surface for defining said upright U-shaped channel.
24. The workstation according to claim 22 wherein said workstation includes an upright rear panel and a widthwise directed horizontal support surface forward of said upright rear panel and raised with respect to said sink unit for removably supporting a discrete hose organizer widthwise above and behind said sink unit.
25. The workstation according to claim 21 wherein said hose organizer stores the coiled water hose alongside a side portion of said surround' s opposite side portions.
26. The workstation according to claim 25 wherein said hose organizer is a discrete. item for removable mounting alongside said side portion.
27. The workstation according to any one of claims 14 to( 20 for mounting on a hose reel cart supporting a hose reel under the workstation.
28. A hose reel cart comprising a wheel mounted frame including a hose reel with a water hose having a hand operated nozzle unit, and a workstation with a sink unit, said workstation being mounted on said wheel mounted frame for deploying said sink unit above said hose reel.
29. The cart according to claim 28 wherein said sink unit includes a basin with a drain, and a surround with at least one nozzle unit retaining device for hands free removably retaining the nozzle unit over said sink unit.
30. The cart according to claim 29 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a nozzle unit support raised with respect to said surround and having a throughgoing aperture for retaining the nozzle unit.
31. The cart according to claim 30 and further comprising a discrete nozzle unit adapter having an elongated member with a first operative end for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and a second operative end remote from said first operative end for removably securing the nozzle unit in said nozzle unit adapter for hands free removably mounting the nozzle unit over said sink unit.
32. The cart according to claim 31 wherein said first operative end includes a cylindrical member for sliding insertion into said throughgoing aperture and said second operative end includes a slotted hollow cylindrical grip for snap fit receiving the nozzle unit therein.
33. The cart according to claim 29 wherein a nozzle unit retaining device includes a generally U-shaped recess in a side portion of said pair of opposite side portions with a clamping insert for removably friction fit clamping the nozzle unit therein.
