Abstract

An instrument for use in an orthopaedic joint replacement surgical procedure comprises a first trial component (6) for fitting to a first bone (2) of the joint, having a first articulating surface. A second trial component (26) is fitting to a second bone (4) of the joint, having a second articulating surface which contacts the first articulating surface during articulation of the joint. A biassing device (40) acts between the second bone and the second articulating surface to urge the second articulating surface towards the first articulating surface during articulation of the joint so that soft tissue connecting the first and second bones is placed under tension.
