Definitions
- This invention relates to a container, and also a container assembly incorporating such a container.
- a container including an integral label receiving structure configured such that a label member can be selectively securely located in the structure, with a message on the label member visible from outside of the container.
- the label receiving structure is preferably configured such that the message on a label member is located within the container and visible through a window in the exterior of the container.
- the label receiving structure may include a slot through which a part of a label member extends.
- the slot may be defined at the entrance of a passage in the container, which passage can receive a part of a label member.
- the container may be selectively closable, and arranged such that a label member in the label receiving structure is restrained therein when the container is closed.
- the container may be in the form of a box, which box may be formable from a blank.
- the label receiving structure may be provided on a first wall of the container, with the window provided in said wall.
- a flap arrangement may be provided at an upper part of said wall, which flap arrangement defines the slot, and which flap arrangement may also define the passage by being folded into the interior of the container.
- the passage may be defined by a plurality of pivotally connected parts, which pivotal connection permits the parts to be folded into the interior of the container.
- the container may also include one or more further flaps which are folded when the container is closed, to retain a label member in the label receiving structure.
- the further flap or flaps may be provided on an adjacent wall or walls to the first wall.
- the container may include a foldable lid with a closing flap, which flap is locatable within the slot of the label receiving structure to maintain the lid in a closed position.
- the label receiving structure may include a formation to retain a label at a required location and orientation, the formation may be a recess which receives a part of a label in the label receiving structure.
- the invention further provides a blank formable into a container according to any of the preceding nine paragraphs.
- the invention also provides a container assembly, the assembly including a container according to any of said preceding nine paragraphs, and a label member selectively locatable in the label receiving structure.
- a plurality of label members may be provided, each label member bearing a different message.
- the label member may be formed from a blank.
- the label member may include a first part which bears a message, and which part is slidably locatable through the slot in the label receiving structure.
- the label member may also include a second part extending from the first, which second part is too wide to pass through said slot.
- the second part preferably extends on either side of the first part so as to be engageable with the label receiving structure on either side of said slot.
- the first and second part of the label member are preferably foldable relative to each other, the second part may be of a size to substantially close an upper part of the container.
- a cut out may be provided on the said second part to facilitate handling thereof.
- Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic plan view of a blank for forming a container according to the invention
- Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic plan view of a blank for forming a label member usable with the container of Fig. 1 ;
- Figs. 3 - 8 are diagrammatic perspective views illustrating use of a container and label member formed from the blanks of Figs. 1 and 2, with Fig. 5 having an enlarged part for clarity.
- the drawings show a container assembly 10 with a container 12 and label member 14.
- the assembly 10 is suitable to provide packaging, for e.g. a bottle of wine, which can be customised or personalised.
- the container 12 is formed from a card blank 16 as shown in Fig. 1.
- the container 12 is largely conventional except for a label receiving structure 18 which will be described in more detail.
- the structure 18 is provided on a first wall 20.
- Identical second walls 22 are provided on either side of the wall 20 and connected thereto by fold lines 24.
- Each second wall 22 has a rectangular upper flap 26, and a base flap 28 formed with two substantially triangular portions. Connected to an edge of a one of the second walls 22 by a fold line 30, is a gluing flap 32.
- a lid 38 is provided at an upper end of the third wall 36.
- the lid 38 is connected to the third wall by a fold line 40 and is just slightly wider than the third wall 36.
- a closing flap 42 is provided on the opposite end of the lid 38 to the third wall 36.
- the flap 42 extends from a fold 44 spaced a short distance from the upper end as shown in Fig. 1 of the lid 38, and the flap 42 has rounded ends.
- Identical base flaps 46 are provided on the first and third walls 20, 36.
- the base flaps 46 are engageable with the base flaps 28 and will be glued together, to close the container 12 in a conventional manner.
- the flap 32 can be glued to the third wall 36 to fully form the container 12.
- the label receiving structure includes a rectangular window 48 with rounded corners, towards the upper end of the first wall 20.
- a flap 50 extends from the upper end of the first wall 20 and has rounded corners.
- a transverse fold 52 is provided centrally across the flap 50.
- a cut 54 is provided extending transversely and centrally at a lower part of the flap 50 with downtumed ends extending a short distance to the top of the first wall 20.
- Fig. 2 shows the label member 14 which comprises a first elongate rectangular part 56 with a rounded lower end 58.
- the first part 56 connects to a wider second part 60 by a transverse fold 62.
- the second part 60 is substantially square with a slightly smaller dimension than the width of the first wall 20.
- a semi-circular cut out 64 is provided in the edge of the second part 60 away from the first part 56.
- the container 12 can be formed from the blank 16 in a conventional manner, using the base flaps 28, 46 and the gluing flap 32.
- the label receiving structure 18 can be arranged by folding the flap 50 into the interior of the container 12 to lie parallel to the first wall 20.
- the fold 52 facilitates location of the flap 50 within the container 12.
- This arrangement defines a slight lip 66 (best visible in Fig. 5) spaced above the window 48, and a slot 68 behind the lip 66.
- Figs. 3 and 4 show the formation of this arrangement.
- Figs. 5 and 8 show an area 70 where a message can be provided on the first part 56 of the label member 14.
- the first part 56 can be slid through the slot 68 as illustrated in Fig. 5, such that the first part 56 locates in a passage defined between the flap 50 and the inside of the first wall 20.
- the first part 56 is of a size to slidingly fit through the slot 68, but the second part
- the second part 60 has not already been folded relative to the first part 56, this can take place as shown in Fig. 5.
- the second part 60 substantially closes the top of the container 12.
- the upper flaps 26 are folded over to the position shown in Fig. 7, further retaining the label member 14 in position, and the lid 38 can then be folded over to the position shown in Fig. 8, with the closing flap 42 also engaging in the slot 68.
- the container 12 can obviously be opened in a conventional manner, and if required a different label member 14 with a different message could be inserted.
- the label can readily be changed as required.
- the label receiving structure is integrally formed with the rest of the container. A wide range of different messages could be provided on the label member, and the messages could be in the form of images.
- any required shape of window or windows could be provided.
- the label member may take any required form.
- a different label receiving structure could be used.
- the container and/or label member could be made of a different material.
- a formation such as a recess could be provided in the container wall which can receive a label, and perhaps at the top thereof, to locate and correctly orientate the label.
- the invention has been described in relation to a container suitable for a wine bottle or similar, the invention is usable on a wide range of different shapes and types of containers. Such containers need not be closable. The invention could for instance be usable with folders to permit labelling thereof.
