Abstract

The invention relates to a low-pressure gas discharge lamp comprising a gas discharge vessel with a mercury-free gas filling and means for generating and maintaining a low-pressure gas discharge. The low pressure gas discharge lamp according to the invention is especially suitable for tanning purposes but also for treatment and curing applications. It is an object of the invention to provide a mercury-free low-pressure gas discharge lamp with a high luminous efficacy. This is achieved by a gas filling of the discharge vessel on the basis of a metal halide like InX, GaX, AlX, SnX, where X = F, Cl, Br, I, or a mixture of the metal halides and a phosphor layer containing for example - (Ca,Sr)S:Eu, Lu3Al5O12:Ce. As an effect the emission from the phosphor layer together with the emission from the gas discharge forms light in the UV-A range and white light in the visible range.
