Definitions
- THIS invention relates to a seal for a camera lens and in particular to a tamper evident seal.
- PDA personal digital assistants
- a person using one of these devices may want to take them into an area where there are security or other restrictions against the use of cameras. Previously, the person in such a case would have no choice but to leave the electronic device with security personnel, for example.
- the present invention seeks to address this. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
- a seal for a camera lens incorporated into an electronic device having adhesive on an underside of the seal, which adhesive is used for sticking the seal to the electronic device, wherein the seal has a camera lens portion which will be located adjacent the camera lens in use and wherein the camera lens portion has no adhesive or has a cover placed over the adhesive so that the adhesive does not get on to the camera lens when in use.
- the seal includes tamper evident means.
- the tamper evident means may be that the seal will alter in appearance should anyone tamper with the seal, particularly that the seal will tear and/or disintegrate so that it cannot be used more than once.
- the seal may include a unique number thereon for identification purposes.
- the camera lens portion may be used in conjunction with a separate piece which is stuck to the electronic device by the seal, when in use.
- the camera lens portion is substantially opaque so that while the seal is in place on the electronic device the device cannot be used to take a photograph.
- Figure 1 is a schematic illustration of an electronic device
- Figure 2 shows the seal of the present invention in use on the electronic device of Figure 1 ;
- Figures 3-5 show three different embodiments of the seal of the present invention.
- an electronic device which has been illustrated for exemplary purposes only as a mobile telephone 10 has a camera lens 12 incorporated into the device.
- the camera is typically operated by a user pointing the device at something which they wish to take a picture of and pressing the button 14 to take a picture.
- a seal 16 is illustrated in position covering the camera lens 12.
- the seal 16 has a unique number 18 thereon for identification purposes. The number is used for tracking and identification and so that the seal cannot be fraudulently manufactured.
- the seal 16 has an adhesive on an underside of the seal, which adhesive is used for sticking the seal to the electronic device.
- adhesive is used for sticking the seal to the electronic device.
- the seal 12 has a camera lens portion 20 which will be located adjacent the camera lens in use and wherein the camera lens portion 20 has no adhesive ( Figure 3) or has a cover 22 placed over the adhesive ( Figure 4) so that the adhesive does not get on to the camera lens when in use.
- Figure 5 illustrates a further embodiment where the camera lens portion 20 is used in conjunction with a separate piece 24 which is stuck to the mobile telephone 10 by the seal, when in use.
- the area covering the camera lens is substantially opaque so that while the seal is in place on an electronic device the device cannot be used to take a photograph.
- the area may be opaque to normal light or infra-red light or any other wavelength of light.
- the seal may have tamper evident means to prevent the user from simply removing the seal, taking a picture and then replacing the seal.
- the tamper evident means may be that the seal will visually and physically alter in appearance, for example, should anyone tamper with the seal, the seal will tear and/or disintegrate so that it cannot be used more than once.
- the adhesive used for the seal is one which can be removed using appropriate solvents so that the adhesive can be cleaned from the electronic device after use.
