Abstract

An implanted microphone (8) is provided that has reduced sensitivity to vibration an acceleration forces. The microphone (8) differentiates between the desirable and undesirable components of a transcutaneously received signal. More specifically, the present invention utilizes a cancellation output (64) from a cancellation surface (60) that is indicative of acceleration acting on the implanted microphone (e.g., an acceleration signal) to counteract and/or cancel the effects of acceleration induced pressures in an output (54) of a microphone diaphragm (10). This may be done in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, pneumatically, mechanically, electrical analog, or digitally, or combinations thereof. In one arrangement, the output (64) may be filtered (68) to match the acceleration response (52) of the of the microphone diaphragm (10). Upon removal of the cancellation output (64) from the diaphragm output (54) the remaining signal (76) corresponds to an acoustic response (42) of the diaphragm (10).
