Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a doormat and comprising a stack of dirt and moisture absorbing paper or cardboard sheets placed in a tray comprising a bottom, and where the respective layers are successively removable/replaceable as required, for placing on an under layer or a depression in a floor corresponding to the geometry of the tray.
  • Such a doormat for the drying-off of dirty footwear is known from GB 2343842, where the sheets in the stack can be glued together along their edges in order to hold the sheets in the preferred position on top of one another during the use of the mat.
  • the sheets can be provided with a finger-hole in one of the corners with the object of facilitating the removal of the sheet which is uppermost in the stack at any given time.
  • the sheets can be placed in a tray or arranged in a recess in a floor.
  • said mats have a weakness, namely that their ability to process a dirt- carrying shoe sole is extremely limited compared e.g. with a scraper grid or coir mat.
  • the paper/cardboard has, however, some excellent moisture and dirt-absorbing characteristics, and for this reason such mats are in many cases preferred to traditional mats, partly out of regard for the above-mentioned characteristics, and partly for the reason that in a matter of moments the mat can be brought to appear clean and new by simply removing the dirtied sheet lying uppermost.
  • a second weakness with said known mats is that they are not particularly resistant to mechanical influences, e.g. in the cleaning/drying of the soles of footwear, and this weakness becomes more noticeable in cases where the paper/cardboard is moist.
  • Another solution could consist of the laying out a number of mats successively, so that the soles on passing footwear are processed mechanically, for example on a scraper grid, and successively freed of moisture/dirt by one of the known mats of paper/cardboard.
  • this solution will not be expedient as a consequence of the presence of the successively laid out mats, which can also have an unsightly effect on the aesthetic impression of the room in which the mats are laid.
