Abstract

A movement for a watchmaking piece comprising a frame (10, 11) defining a reference plane and, mounted thereon, a mechanical energy source, a clockwork watch movement driven by said energy source and adapted in such a way as to be able to bear means for displaying the time, and a time base comprising two balance wheels and two escapements, and a differential gear (31) ensuring a kinematic link between the clockwork watch movement and the escapements. According to the invention, the time base comprises two tourbillons (20,25) each of which is provided with a cage (19,26) bearing an escapement and a balance wheel, said cages being rotationally driven at least intermediately by said differential gear (31).

Description

TIMEPIECE WITH TWO VORTEX

The present invention relates to movements for timepieces called mechanical. It concerns more particularly a movement comprising a frame defining a reference plane hereinafter referred to as the plane of movement and on which are mounted: - a source of mechanical energy, - a going train driven by said energy source and arranged so as to support display means of the time, - a time base comprising two balances and two escapements-spiral, and - a differential gearing providing a kinematic connection between the going train and the exhausts.

A piece of this type is described in the "Catalog of selected works of the International Museum of horology", part No. 417, ISBN 2-940088-07-1.

Thus, the daily rate of the watch is equal to the average daytime marches of the two pendulums-spiral.

It is about two variants. In the first, the differential feeds independently exhausts maintaining the movement of the two rockers-spiral. As the spiral end is fixed to the same frame, there may appear a coupling, such that, cyclically, the amplitude of a beam may decrease while that of the other increases, and this in proportions which may be significant. If so, it is not fear that a balance will Rebatte, it is necessary that the amplitude is greatly reduced, which goes against the purpose.

In the second variant, the two spiral-gimbals are mounted on the same tourbillon cage, which carries two escapements, and a differential providing two outlets food. Again, the risk of beating is existing. Furthermore, as the two pendulums are arranged side by side, their cumulative diameters can not exceed the radius of movement.

The object of the present invention is to provide a movement with two rockers-spiral which may be of large diameter, without risk of coupling. This object is achieved by the fact that the time base comprises two tourbillons, each having a cage carrying an escapement and a balance spring balancier-. These cages are driven at least indirectly in rotation by the differential gear. In this application, the whirlwind term in the broad sense, also covering the carousels. With such a configuration, the fact that the spiral are each integral with a tourbillon cage, which is rotatably mounted on the frame, makes a virtually impossible coupling. Moreover, as each beam is mounted on a cage, it follows that its diameter is only slightly smaller than that of the cage. But the regulating quality of a balance is even better than its diameter is large, because the growth of inertia depending on the diameter is faster than weight. Thus, the accuracy of the movement can be improved significantly.

In order to reduce the difference of step between the horizontal and vertical positions, at least one of the tourbillons comprises a cage that pivots about an axis not orthogonal to the plane of movement. In this way, whatever the position of the timepiece, the two axes of the pendulums will never vertical simultaneously, so that in addition to the advantages mentioned above, the rate variations between different positions the watch are substantially weaker. More particularly, the tourbillon comprising a cage whose axis is not orthogonal to movement of the map comprises a second shaft pivotally mounted on the frame about an axis orthogonal to the plane of movement and wherein the first cage pivots.

If the two tourbillons rotate at the same angular speed, the same conditions are found at every turn. In this way, the average walking the timepiece fluctuate periodically. It is possible to reduce the fluctuation due to the fact that the differential gear is configured so that the vortices rotate at different angular velocities.

Other features of the invention emerge from the description which follows, made with reference to the single accompanying figure which is a partial axial section view of the timepiece movement.

The movement according to the invention comprises, in conventional manner, a frame constituted by a plate 10 and at least one bridge 11 and defining a reference plane referred to as plane of movement, on which are pivoted the various gears, levers, latches, about axes perpendicular to this plane.

The figure shows a third wheel 12, part of a gear train driven by a drum it is unnecessary to represent. This wheel meshes with a wheel completing one revolution per minute and having a shaft provided with a pinion 13 engaged with the third wheel 12 and a wheel 14. A second hand 15 is driven onto one of the ends of the tree.

This further carries, rotatably mounted, a first mobile formed by a pinion 16 whose function will be further and a wheel 17 meshing with a pinion 18 integral with the cage 19 of a first whirlpool 20. this vortex is pivoted in the frame about an axis YY perpendicular to the plane of movement.

The cage 19 carries an escape wheel 21 which drives an anchor and through it a sprung balance, the latter two components are not shown to avoid overloading the drawing. More complete information concerning this type of vortices can be found in the book "Theory of watchmaking," Chs-A. Reymondin et al, ISBN 2-940025-10- X.

A wheel 22 having the same diameter and the same number of teeth as the wheel 17 is also mounted to rotate freely on the shaft 13. It meshes with the pinion 23 of a first cage 24 that includes a second vortex 25. the pinion 23 and the cage 24 rotate in the frame about an axis BB perpendicular to the plane of movement. A second cage 26 is pivotally mounted on the first cage 24 about an axis C at an acute angle, typically 30 ° to the axis BB. The cage 26 carries an escape wheel 27 which drives an anchor and through it a sprung balance, the latter two components have not been shown in the drawing to avoid overloading. The structure and operation of a vortex of this type are described in detail in patent application WO / 03017009 filed in the name of the Applicant.

The wheel 22 carries a satellite comprising a first satellite pinion 28 mounted on one side thereof in engagement with the wheel 14 and rigidly coupled, by means of a screw 29, a second pinion 30 arranged on the satellite the other face of the wheel 22 and meshing with the pinion 16. it will be noted that these two planet pinions have substantially different diameters.

The mechanism formed of the shaft 13, wheels 14, 17 and 22 and pinions 16, 28 and 30 constitute a differential gear 31 that allows to cause the cages 19 and 24 of the two vortices 20 and 25 at their own pace. Indeed, each cage rotates in jerks, whenever the exhaust provides an impulse to the balance. This therefore means that, during each drive pulse, differential wheel rotates and drives one or the other cages, or both simultaneously. The differential gear train is itself driven by the third wheel 12 which is driven by the barrel.

In operation, the third wheel 12 acts, by the pinion 13 and the wheel 14, the pinion-satellite 28. It thus generates torques applied one on the pinion 16 by the pinion-30 satellite, the other directly on the wheel 22, because the sprockets 28 and 30 do not have the same number of teeth.

For accurate determination of the characteristics of the differential gear which has just been described, reference the document entitled "clockwork gears" Volume II, P. Augereau, published on the occasion of study days to 'for teachers of the watchmaker education, organized on 12 and 13 December 1996 CETEHOR (Besançon, France). The movement as just described may be many variations. Thus, the vortices can both be the same type as the whirl 20 with their axes parallel to each other and perpendicular to the plane of movement. They can also both be the same type as the tourbillon 25, that is, each comprising two cages, one of which is non-orthogonal to the plane of motion. It is also possible that the cages are rotated directly in the frame, on non-orthogonal axes to the plane of movement.

Periods and rotation direction of the vortices can be the same or different, defined by the differential gear ratios.

The characteristics of spiral-rockers such as their oscillation period or moment of inertia may be similar or different.

If the periods eddies are different, while the rockers have the same frequency and the same diameter, an intermediate wheel is advantageously interposed between the differential wheel and the vortex of the pinion, so that the angle traversed by the third wheel 12 is the same for the two vortices, so that the power supplied to each of the vortices is the same.

If the vortex cages have the same frequency of rotation, they will be advantageously equipped with means of identification of their position, which will determine independently the march of each vortex, and thus facilitate the movement of adjustment.

The same principles are also applicable to movement which would involve more than two gimbals-spiral, by providing, for example, a cage of two rockers, as described in the catalog mentioned above, and a second cage comprising a single pendulum. It is even possible to equip the movement of a third vortex.

It is obvious that one and / or other vortices could also be of the two or three cages, for example orthogonal. Thus, thanks to the fact that the movement is equipped with at least two vortices, it is possible to improve accuracy without risk of beat phenomena, while giving it a prestigious character.

Claims

CLAIMS 1. Movement of type timepiece having a frame (10, 11) defining a reference plane and, mounted thereon: - a source of mechanical energy, - a going train driven by said source energy and arranged to be able to support display means of the time, - a time base comprising two balances and two escapements, and - a differential gear (31) providing a kinematic connection between said going train and said exhausts, characterized in that said time base comprises at least two tourbillons (20, 25), each provided with a cage (19, 26) carrying an escapement and a balance, said cages being driven at least indirectly in rotation by said differential gear (31). 2. Movement according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one of said tourbillons (25) comprises a cage (26) which pivots about an axis (CC) not orthogonal to the plane of movement. 3. The movement according to Claim 2, characterized in that the tourbillon (25) comprising a cage (26) whose axis (CC) is not orthogonal to movement of the map comprises a second cage (24) pivotally mounted on the frame and wherein pivots the first cage (26). 4. Movement according to claim 3, characterized in that the pivot axis (BB) of the second cage (24) is orthogonal to the plane of movement. 5. Movement according to claim 1, characterized in that said differential gear (31) is arranged so that the vortices (0, 25) rotate at different angular velocities.
