Abstract

The invention relates to a control unit for illumination devices with lamps (4-i), arranged in series in an electrical supply line (2), comprising first control modules (15), each coupled to an illumination device with i) detection means (19), providing primary signals representing a fault within an illumination device, ii) first processing means (20), generating series of at least two identical secondary signals as required and iii) first control means (21) which, on receipt of primary signals, command the first processing means (20) to transmit a series of secondary signals on the supply line (2) as a function of a selected time scheme, whereby the time schemes for the first control modules (15) do not overlap and together define a primary cycle during the course of which each first control module has a time window for transmission of the series thereof in the case of detection of a fault, a second control module, connected to the supply line (2), synchronised with each first control module (15) and comprising second processing means for dating the series of secondary signals transmitted during each cycle and second control means which identify an illumination device (4-i) from the date of a series of secondary signals emitted by the first control module (15) thereof and to provide an alarm which at least represents each illumination device thus identified.
