Description

Bag Holder
The present invention relates to a bag holder comprising a front covering plate and an essentially plane backing plate, means for holding a bag, and a hinge.
In the prior art, different types of bag holders are known. Pedal bins are designed to be placed on the floor. This type of bins typically comprises a bucket with a lid. The lid can be opened by depressing a pedal which is connected to a mechanism whereby the lid opens. This is disadvantageous when the room has to be cleaned. It is necessary to move the pedal bin if the floor is to be cleaned.
Furthermore, bag holders for suspension on a wall are known. WO 02/060762 Al discloses a bag holder for suspension on a wall. This bag holder comprises a front side member which is pivotably connected to back-side member in one point. When the front member is closed, it completely covers the bag in question. When the front member is tilted, the bag holder is opened. The size of the aperture to the bag is limited, and when the user wants to close the bag holder, he must tilt the front side member slowly to its initial position to avoid a quick and possibly noisy closing of the bag holder.
It is the object of the present invention to solve at least some of the above-mentioned problems.
This object is achieved by a bag holder of the type mentioned above, comprising a front covering plate and an essentially plane backing plate, means for holding a bag, and a hinge, wherein the hinge detachably couples the front and the back plates, and that the hinge comprises means for allowing a relatively pivotable movement of the two plates combined with a relative displacement of one plate in relation to the other plate.
This bag holder is advantageous because it is possible to remove the front plate for cleaning the bag holder and the special hinge construction allows a very large aperture of the bag holder when it is open. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the means for allowing a relatively pivotable movement of the two plates combined with a relative displacement of one plate in relation to the other plate comprises two essentially omega-shaped members, wherein the first omega-shaped member has a first axle part with a first and a second end, a second axle part protruding in an angle to said first axle from said first end of the first axle part, a third axle part protruding from said second axle part parallel with the first axle part, a fourth axle part protruding in an angle to said first axle from said second end of the first axle part and with a length essentially of the same size as the second axle part, a fifth axle part protruding from said fourth axle part parallel with the first axle part, said second omega-shaped member comprising first axle part with a first and a second end, a second axle part protruding in an angle to said first axle part from said first end of the first axle part, a third axle part protruding from said second axle part parallel with the first axle part, a fourth axle part protruding in an angle to said first axle part from said second end of the first axle part, and with a length essential of the same size as the second axle part, a fifth axle part protruding from said fourth axle part parallel with the first axle part, all axle parts of both members laying in the same plane, said first axle part of the first omega-shaped member and said first axle part of the second omega-shaped member pivotally mounted with a distance between each other on said backing plate, said third and fifth axle part of the first omega-shaped member and third and fifth (axle part of the second omega-shaped member pivotably mounted with a distance between each other on said front covering plate.
By using these specialized omega-shaped members it is possible to achieve the relativly pivotable movement of the two plates combined with a relative displacement of one plate in relation to the other plate. The size of the relative displacement can be adjusted by selecting the right size of the second and fourth axle part of the first and second omega-shaped members.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the second axle part of the first omega-shaped member and the second axle part of the second omega-shaped member have different lengths. When the size of the second and fourth axle parts of the first omega-shaped member is different from the size of the second and fourth axle parts of the second omega-shaped member a pivotable movement is achieved.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the backing plate comprises at least one first engagement means in the shape of a first hook being adapted for receiving said first omega-shaped member in a pivotable way and at least one second means in the shape of a second hook being adapted for receiving said second omega-shaped member in a pivotable way. By using hook-shaped engagement means, it is easy to attach and remove the omega-shaped members into or from the engagement means. This has the advantage that it is easy to remove the front covering plate together with the omega-shaped members from the backing plate e.g. for cleaning of the bag holder.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the first and second hooks have the openings of the hooks facing against each other. This arrangement of the hooks will lock the omega-shaped members into the hooks in normal operation. The omega-shaped members will only be released from the hooks when a manual force is applied on the members.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the means for allowing a relativly pivotable movement of the two plates combined with a relative displacement of one plate in relation to the other plate comprises a hinge member pivotably mounted on the backing plate and pivotably mounted on the covering plate. This embodiment is advantageous because it reduces a number of hinge members.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, a gas damper is arranged between the front and back plate. A gas damper will allow a smooth move of the front covering plate, when it is opened or closed.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the bag holder comprises a gas damper having a first end pivotally mounted on said first axle part of one of said omega- shaped members and a second end pivotally mounted on the second, third, fourth or fifth axle part of the other omega-shaped member. This embodiment is advantageous, because it is attached pivotally and in an asymmetric way such that it will be compressed when the bag holder is operated. Furhermore, it does not take up unnecessary physical space in the bag holder.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention the means for holding a bag comprises a container adapted to be detachably mounted in holding means provided on the back plate. It is advantageous that a bag can be placed in a detachable container, because there is easy access to remove an old bag and insert a new bag in the bag holder, when it can be done in a container which is removed from the bag holder. Furthermore, garbage, which does not end in the bag, can be collected by the container, which can be detached from the bag holder for cleaning.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the container is provided with slits for engaging the bag. Slits provide a stable engagement of the bag, so the bag will be maintained in its correct position.
In another embodiment of the invention the front plate comprises means for opening the bag holder in the form of a foot pedal. An embodiment with a foot pedal is advantageous, because it allows the user to open the bag holder without using his of her hands.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the bag holder comprises means for automatically closing the bag holder, said means being selected from the group of closing means consisting of a spring, elastic material and gas dampers. From a hygienic point of view it is advantageous that a bag holder is automatically closed after use. The proposed closing means can close the bag holder by using the energy it receives when the bag holder is opened. It is therefore not necessary with any external energy supply. The closing means can be arranged in the bagholder in the same way as described for the gas damper.
The invention will be described in more details with reference to the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side view of an embodiment of the invention, Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of the two omega-shaped members, Fig. 3 shows one embodiment of the backing plate with engaging means, and Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of the invention in a side view.
In Fig. 1 one embodiment of the invention is shown. The front covering plate 3 comprises a handgrip 2 and a foot pedal 8, which can be used to open the bag holder. The front covering plate 3 is detachably attached to the backing plate 5 by a hinge construction comprising a first omega-shaped member 11, a second omega-shaped member 13, and the engagement means 4 and 6 of the backing plate 5.
The backing plate 5 is secured to the wall 7. In this embodiment the backing plate is quite small, but it can of course have a size which equals the size of the front covering plate 3.
Inside the bag holder a container 9 is arranged. The container can receive a bag which can be secured to the container in a number of slits 10.
The first omega-shaped member 11 is pivotally connected to the front covering plate 3 and pivotally connected to the backing plate 5 in the first engaging means 6 in shape of a hook. The second omega-shaped member 13 is also pivotally connected to the front covering plate 3 and pivotally connected to the second engagement means 4 in the shape of a hook.
When a pressure is applied in a downward direction to the handgrip 2 or the foot pedal
8 the front covering plate 3 will be forced by the hinge construction comprising the first omega-shaped member 11 and the second omega-shaped member 13 to move in a relativly pivotally and outward and downward direction.
It is possible to detach the front covering plate 3 from the backing plate 5 by opening the bag holder, removing the container 9, and apply a pressure in a downward direction on the first omega-shaped member 11 in the hook 6. When the first omega- shaped member 11 is free of the hook 6 the front covering plate can be removed from the backing plate 5. To attach the front covering plate 3 again it is only necessary to place the second omega-shaped member 13 in the second hook 4 and close the front covering plate 3. The shape of the first hook 6 will guide the first omega-shaped member 11 into the hook. A gas cylinder or gas damper 14 is also shown. It is attached pivotally to the first omega-shaped member 11 and the second omega-shaped member
13.
The purpose of the gas cylinder or gas damper 14 is to allow a more smooth operation of the movement of the front covering plate 3. If a gas cylinder is used it will be compressed when the bag holder is open, and the gas cylinder will close the bag holder when the user has released the front covering plate 3. Other closing means can be used instead of a gas cylinder, e. g. a spring or elastic material.
In Fig. 2 details of one embodiment of the omega-shaped members are shown. In the first omega-shaped member 22 the third axle part 19 protrudes from the second axle part 17, which protrude from the first axle part 15. The angles of the protrusions does not necessarilly have to be 90° as shown in this embodiment. The other part of the first omega-shaped member 22 and the second omega-shaped member 24 is constructed in a similar way. The first omega-shaped member 22 is pivotally connected to the backing plate 5 by the hooks 6 and 6'. The second omega-shaped member 24 is pivotally connected to the backing plate 5 by the hooks 4 og 4'. Between the two omega-shaped member 22 and 24 a gas telescopic cylinder or gas damper is secured. It is attached pivotally and in an asymmetric way such that it will be compressed when the bag holder is open. The purpose of the gas telescopic cylinder or gas damper 14 is to give a smooth operation and automatically close the bag holder. This object can also be achieved by using a spring or an elastic material instead of a gas cylinder.
In Fig. 3 the backing plate 5 is shown with the hooks 6, 6 4, 4'. The hooks 6 and 6' are shaped such that they easily can guide the first omega-shaped member into the opening of the hook 6, 6'. The hooks 4, 4' are shaped such that they can sustain the second omega-shaped member. The hooks 4 and 6, respectively 4' and 6', are facing their openings against each other to increase the stability of the hinge construction. In Fig. 4 another embodiment of the invention is shown. This embodiment of the invention is simplified in that there is only one hinge member 40. This hinge member is pivotally attached to the backing plate 5 and pivotally attached to the front covering plate 3. The hinge construction shown in this figure allows a pivotal and relative displacement of the front covering plate 3 and the backing plate 5. Because there is only one hinge member 40 the movement can be relatively free, and it is possible to apply additional means for guiding the movement of the front covering plate 3.
