Description

A METHOD OF ESTABLISHING AND DELETING MBMS SERVICE IN SGSN
AND GGSN
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a method of establishing and deleting MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) multicast service in a network equipment (SGSN and GGSN) of a WCDMA communication system.
2. DESCRIPTION OF PRIOR ART
MBMS (hereinafter referred to as MBMS) is a new service under standardization by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (hereinafter referred to as 3GPP). MBMS service is a unidirectional point-to-multipoint (p-t-m) service, whose most remarkable characteristic is that it can make use of radio resources and network resources efficiently.
To better descript MBMS, Figure 1 illustrates a system structure of MBMS; Figure 2 is an example for illustrating a flow of MBMS multicast service set-up; and Figure 3 illustrates a flow of MBMS multicast service deletion.
As shown in Fig. 1 , MBMS network structure is based on the core network of General Packet Radio Service (hereinafter referred to as GPRS), and adds new network units. Broadcast and multicast service center 101 (hereinafter referred to as BM-SC) is a service control center of MBMS system. Gateway GPRS Supporting Node 102 (hereinafter referred to as GGSN) and Service GPRS Supporting Node 103 (hereinafter referred to as SGSN) compose a transmission network of MBMS service and provide route for data transfer. UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network 104 (hereinafter referred to as UTRAN) provides radio resources for MBMS service over an air-interface. User Equipment 105 (hereinafter referred to as UE) is a terminal device used to receive data. Home Location Register 106 (hereinafter referred to as HLR) saves the data related to user and can provide services such as user's authentication. Gn/Gp 107 represents an interface between SGSN and GGSN. Gi 108 represents an interface between BM-SC and GGSN, and the interface protocol is Internet Group Management Protocol (hereinafter referred to as IGMP). Gmb 109 represents an interface between BM-SC and GGSN, and the interface protocol is dedicated to transfer MBMS signalling parameters. The radio resources used by MBMS service are not dedicated for one user, but are shared by all users of this service. The flow shown in Figure 2 will be explained in the following:
201 When UE wants to receive a certain MBMS service, it sends an message to establish MBMS Request to SGSN, which includes the parameters that can uniquely indicate that MBMS service, e.g. IP multicast address, access point name (hereinafter referred to as APN, which is used to seek for GGSN), etc.
202 SGSN performs necessary security check on the UE to ensure whether the UE is registered.
203 If the UE is the first one that requests for the MBMS service, SGSN will send an Establish MBMS Context Request to GGSN, which includes parameters related to the MBMS service. If the UE is not the first one to request for the MBMS service, SGSN executes step 206 directly.
204 After GGSN receives the Establish MBMS Context Request, GGSN sends a Join MBMS Service Group Request to BM-SC via Gi interface if the MBMS service indicated by the context has never been established in GGSN. 205 GGSN sends an Establish MBMS Context Response to SGSN while establishing an
MBMS Context.
206 After SGSN receives a response from GGSN, it establishes the MBMS Context.
207 SGSN sends an Establish MBMS Service Response to the UE.
The flow shown in Figure 3 will be explained in the following:
301 When UE wants to deactivate a certain MBMS service, UE sends a Deactivate MBMS Service Request to SGSN.
302 After receiving the request, SGSN checks whether the UE is the last one that is using the MBMS service. If so, SGSN sends a Delete MBMS Context Request to GGSN; otherwise, SGSN executes step 304 directly.
303 After receiving the request, GGSN deletes the MBMS Context and sends a Delete MBMS Context Response to SGSN.
304 After receiving the response from GGSN, SGSN deletes the MBMS Context and sends a message to deactivate MBMS Service Response to the UE.
As MBMS is a new technology under research, in existing MBMS technologies, existing Establish MBMS Service methods can not solve the problem of controlling MBMS service and UE of this service on the interface between SGSN and GGSN simultaneously, and can not meet the requirement of initializing the establishment of a service by RNC, which make some service requirements for MBMS can not been met.
The method of establishing MBMS service for UE by existing network equipments (SGSN and GGSN) is neither perfect nor complete, and does not provide the method of initializing the establishment of a service by RNC, which make the signaling established on the Gn/Gp interface unable to well control MBMS service and the UE of this service, and make RNC unable to initialize establishment of a service actively.

MBMS Context Request message according to the message received in step (1) and executes step (3), otherwise SGSN executes step (4) directly;
(3) SGSN receives a Delete Second MBMS Context Response message from GGSN and deletes a Second MBMS Context; (4) SGSN constructs a Delete First MBMS Context Request message and sends the message to GGSN;
(5) SGSN receives a Delete First MBMS Context Response message from GGSN and deletes a First MBMS Context. According to another aspect of the invention, a method of deleting MBMS service in GGSN comprises the steps of:
( 1 ) GGSN receives a Delete Second MBMS Context Request message from SGSN;
(2) GGSN constructs a Delete Second MBMS Context Response message according to the message received in step (1) and sends the message to SGSN, and deletes a Second
MBMS Context;
(3) GGSN receives a Delete First MBMS Context Request message from SGSN;
(4) GGSN constructs a Delete First MBMS Context Response message according to the message received in step (3) and sends the message to SGSN, and deletes a First MBMS Context.
