Description

ELECTRONIC CARD WITH AT LEAST ONE ADHESIVE SURFACE
DESCRIPTION The present invention relates to an adhesive electronic card containing a transceiver.
It is known in the art that there exists the need to have means which can be associated with containers of various types and are able to contain information which can be handled in a dynamic manner and made available to authorised users. It is also known that there exists the need to seal said containers so that any attempts at tampering are obvious.
For this purpose numerous types of seals are used, requiring breakage thereof and subsequent resealing in the case where authorised access to the containers is needed, for example in order to modify the contents thereof. At the same time there is also the need to have a document which is able to provide at all times a certified list of the products actually present in the container.
An example of such a need consists, for example, in the freight containers used for road, rail and sea transportation .
The technical problem which is posed, therefore, is that of providing a device which is able to be applied to containers and the like and at the same time allows the user to be provided with an up-to-date list of the products present inside the container. Within the scope of this problem a further requirement is that said device should allow sealing of the containers, if required, and that it should be easy and inexpensive to manufacture and be able to be applied without the need for special apparatus, even by non- specialised personnel. This technical problem is solved according to the present invention by an electronic card comprising a support inside which at least one processing logic unit and at least one area for storing data are arranged, said support containing a transceiver device able to communicate with a corresponding remote apparatus available to a user and one side of said support being associated with a layer of adhesive material for application of the electronic card to the place of use. Further details and characteristic features will emerge clearly from the description which follows of a non- limiting example of embodiment of the device according to the invention provided with reference to the accompanying figures in which:
Figure 1 shows a front view of an electronic card according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows a cross-section along the plane indicated by II-II in Fig. 1;
Figure 3a shows a schematic view of a first example of application of the electronic card according to the present invention; Figure 3b shows a schematic view of a second example of application of the electronic card according to the present invention; and
Figure 3c shows a schematic view of a third example of application of the electronic card according to the present invention.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the electronic card 1 according to the present invention is substantially composed of a support 10 made with a layer of material having a suitable thickness and rigidity. The following components are arranged inside said support: at least one central processing unit (CPU) 11, at least one data storage unit 12 and at least one data transceiver device 13 able to exchange information with a corresponding transceiver 51 available to the user and preferably incorporated in a processor 50.
An aerial 14 which is formed by means of conductors printed, for example perimetrally, on said support 10 forms an integral part of said transceiver device. One of the two opposite surfaces of the support 10 is provided with a layer of adhesive material 20 which is covered by a sheet 21 of shiny material able to be applied so as to protect the adhesive until the moment when the electronic card is affixed in the place of use, whereas the other surface of the support is lined with a suitable layer 15 of protective material, which is preferably transparent. In a preferred embodiment, the electronic card will also be punched with pre- scored lines 30 able to produce breakage of the electronic card itself in the event of attempts to tamper therewith. It is pointed out in particular how breakage of the card produces simultaneous breakage of the aerial 14 which cannot be reconstructed and correct operation of which cannot be restored, once tampering has occurred. With this configuration the electronic card according to the invention will be able to receive information of a varying nature by means of the transceiver device 13, store said information in the memory cell 12 and allow any processing thereof by the CPU 11. Vice versa, the data contained in the memory 12 may be made accessible to an external user who is able to gain access by means of the transceiver device 51 associated with decoding and display means such as a portable computer which is conventional per se and therefore not described in detail. In a preferred embodiment it is envisaged that activation of transmission/reception is performed by an induction circuit which is controlled by the user's transceiver 51.
In order to prevent unauthorised modification and/or falsification of the contents of the electronic card, it is envisaged that the protocol for exchange of data between the electronic card and user comprises secret identification and/or security codes.
In addition to this, because of the impossibility of restoring the circuit of the aerial 14 once the latter has been tampered with, it is possible to detect immediately any unauthorised attempts at access, since the card does not respond to interrogation. The electronic card according to the invention is suitable for numerous applications, some examples of which are shown in Figures 3a-3c.
In greater detail, Fig. 3a shows use of the electronic card 1 according to the invention as a seal for containers 100; said containers may consist, for example, of a freight container of a transportation vehicle for which the electronic card performs the dual function of an accompanying document detailing the merchandise contained therein and a seal providing a guarantee against tampering. In the event of tampering, the breakage lines 30 would in fact result in a visible alteration in the conditions of the electronic card with breakage of the aerial 14 and therefore no response from the card itself .
Fig. 3b shows use of the electronic card 1 as a record/accompanying note for the products arranged on shelves 200; in this case the possibility of remotely reading/writing the contents of the memory would allow dynamic checking of the contents of the shelf with the possibility of managing the store. Fig. 3c, finally, shows use of the electronic card 1 as means for allowing barriers of various types to be passed through; the example shows a motorway toll booth 300 with a reading device 351 which is buried in the ground in a suitable position, while the electronic card is applied, for example, underneath the front bumper of the passing vehicle 301; when the electronic card passes over the reader the latter detects the data of the electronic card and causes activation of the protocol which results in opening of the barrier, with/without payment of a toll. It is obviously possible to envisage different positions for the card and the reading device, provided that the correct conditions necessary for reception/transmission exist . A similar use could be envisaged for subscriptions with or payments to car parks and the like.
In particular it is envisaged that the electronic card according to the invention may be provided with two different types of adhesive depending on the actual use envisaged for the card: in a first case where it is required that the card should be irremovable, a corresponding high-strength adhesive will be applied, while if use as a movable record is envisaged, a corresponding low-strength adhesive will be applied, allowing the card to be moved and reused.
