Abstract

An electronic device (10) comprises a display (12) for displaying data stored on said electronic device (10); input means (16); sensing means (20) for sensing the three-dimensional position of the input means (16) relative to said device (10); and control means for controlling the data displayed on said display (12) in dependence on the three-dimensional position of the input means (16) relative to said device (10). The input means (16) includes a source of electromagnetic radiation for directing an infrared conical beam onto the display (12). The sensing means (20) can sense the elliptical eccentricity of the electromagnetic radiation incident on the display (12) to determine the angle at which it strikes the display (12), and can sense the area of the electromagnetic radiation incident on the display (12) to determine the distance of the input means (16) from the display (12).
