Process and system for control
The present invention relates to a method for control, e.g. authorisation for passage, where a, preferably information carrying contact unit is carried by an individual, which contact unit is brought into contact with control means, e.g. for authorisation control.
The invention also regards a system for carrying out the method.
Technique of substantially this kind is previously known. Thus, it is known that an individual carries a card provided with information or the like, which card is brought into contact with a reader, the reader also being provided with a set of buttons, by means of which a code may be transferred to the reader and at the same time a control of information carried by the card and transferred code may be per- formed for settling of e.g. authorisation.
Such known technique is associated with among other things high installation costs, especially if the card reader shall be in electrical contact with a central unit or the corresponding.
The present invention offers a solution to the above referenced problems and offers among other things an increased degree of security and substantially increased flexibility as far as control function is concerned compared to known technique.
Thus, the invention relates to a method according to the introductory portion of the accompanying claim 1. The method is especially characterised in what is stated in the characterising portion of said claim.
Further, the invention relates to a system according to the introductory portion of the accompanying claim 14. The system is especially characterised in what is stated in the characterising portion of the last mentioned claim.
Below the invention is described in more detail in association with exemplifying embodiments and the accompanying drawing, where
- Fig. 1 schematically shows a principal scheme over a first embodiment of a system according to the invention,
- Fig. 2 schematically shows a portion of a system according to the invention with a door as control object,
- Fig. 3 schematically shows a portion of a system according to the invention with a computer as control object, and
- Fig. 4 schematically shows an embodiment of a contact unit according to the invention.
In Fig. 1 , 1 designates a preferably information carrying contact unit, which is meant to be carried by an individual and to include information unique for this individual, where the individual may be a physical person or a legal person. 2 designates control means arranged to receive and compile information from the contact unit, where said control means are arranged to control a control object 3, as far as e.g. authorisation for passage or use is concerned.
Said control object 3 may thus be of several different kinds. According to one embodiment the control object is a door 4, Fig. 2, where the lock 5 of the door enters unlocked position when the control means have detected authorisation and given signal to devices 6 of the lock. The door may be a shell door for passage, e.g. into and out of a building, an area or the like. The door may also be a door to an individual working room. The control object may also be a computer 7, Fig. 3, access to which is offered not until authorisation has been concluded within the frame for a system according to the invention, as described in more detail later.
The contact unit 1 is arranged to transfer information to the control means in a touch free way. According to preferred embodiments the contact unit is arranged to send
information via short distance radio and comprises for this purpose suitable transmitter devices, not shown, the control means comprising the corresponding receiver devices, not shown. Other ways for transfer of information may of course be imagined, e.g. by means of infrared radiation, micro waves or the like.
The information, which is intended to be transferred to the control means is intended to constitute unique individual information for the individual, whereby the information may be put together of different information elements. According to a preferred embodiment, the contact unit comprises devices 8, Fig. 4, to detect and compile individual biometric information, such as finger prints and/or eyebottom characteristics, which information identifies the individual with high security. Also according to a preferred embodiment the contact unit comprises devices, such as a set 9 of buttons for entering a code, such as a so-called PIN-code, which code hereby is individual for one individual. Either may one of these information elements be used but it is preferred that a combination of both elements is used and in a suitable form is included in the information, which is transferred to actual control means. Contact units, not shown, with only devices 8 for biometric information as well as only devices 9 for PIN code may thus be imagined.
According to one embodiment, shown in full lines in Fig. 1 , said control means are arranged to be provided in and/or close to the actual control object, e.g. as hinted in Fig. 2.
According to one in certain cases preferred embodiment shown partly intermittently lined in Fig. 1, said control means are arranged to at least partly be provided at a considerable distance from the actual control object, whereby devices 2, 10 are provided for exchange of information in a touch free way. According to one preferred, shown embodiment this is intended to be performed via radio e.g. via the GSM net-work. According to this embodiment the information is intended to be transmitted via the GSM net- work to a central unit 11 or the corresponding for
control or the corresponding and to receive and compile the result of the control or the corresponding.
According to one embodiment, Fig. 3, the control object consists of a computer 7, whereby devices 12 are provided for the activation and deactivation respectively of the computer software when the contact unit is at a predetermined distance from control means controlling the computer. Further, devices are provided to verify authorisation to computers by means of an individual code and/or biometric information, which is intended to be applied to the contact unit, as described earlier.
It is also preferred that at least part of the information, which is transferred in a touch free way is encrypted.
According to embodiments preferred in certain cases the contact unit comprises devices, not shown, to receive and preferably store individual attendance - and/or activity information, preferably in the form of a code, which information preferably is intended to be supplied by the individual.
In order to achieve a broad area of use as described above, the contact unit preferably comprises a read- and writeable medium.
The method according to the invention as well as the function of one system according to the invention should to a considerable part be obvious from the above description.
The contact unit, which is supplied by unique, individual information by the carrier, transfers in a touch free way information to the control means, which, after approved, desired control, by means of a signal, gives access to the actual control object, i.e. opens a door, computer etc.
According to preferred embodiments, the contact unit is provided with a display 13, which shows instructions when in contact with the control means, which contact is established at a preferably short distance between the control object and the contact unit.
When the control object is a computer, the computer is turned down when the contact unit/the carrier moves away a predetermined distance from the computer, e.g. leaves the working room. When the contact unit again is moved towards the computer contact is opened and access to the computer is obtained when a correct identity is verified, via the contact unit and/or the computer, e.g. by means of a code and/or biometric information.
As should also be obvious from the above description the invention offers a very flexible and safe control compared to known technique. Since the control means may be and preferably are decentralised, i.e. are not in electrical contact with a central system via cables etc, high installation costs are saved. Extensive control may be made via e.g. the GSM net-work to a relatively low cost. By registration of individual attendance - and/or activity information, information for e.g. salary - and billing systems may be easily obtained.
Above, the invention has been described in association with preferred and exemplifying embodiments. Of course more embodiments as well as minor modifications and additions may be imagined without leaving the basic inventive idea.
Thus, it is, as mentioned, in many cases to be preferred that the information, which is exchanged in a touch free way, such as via radio, is encrypted.
Furthermore, it is of course possible to combine the invention with systems where a contact unit or information carrier is arranged for exchange of information via physical contact, e.g. according to Swedish patent No. 9102739-1.
Thus, the invention shall not be considered to be limited to the above described embodiments but may be varied within its frame, specified by the accompanying claims.
