Abstract

A gas generator composition for airbags which is lowly toxic and has a high combustion rate and a low combustion temperature. The composition comprises (a) a bitetrazole compound as a fuel and (b) a basic metal nitrate as an oxidizing agent. It preferably comprises 15 to 35 wt.% bitetrazole ammonium salt as the ingredient (a) and 65 to 85 wt.% basic copper nitrate as the ingredient (b). It may further contain (c) a binder and/or a slug-forming agent.
