Abstract

It has a fastening system (fig.1) of manual operation by a simple effort, being this system designed in order to disconnect the system in case of an internal increase of pressure occur protecting this way the rest of the system and the gas supply from this pressure increase. It also contains a retention valve (fig.2) to seal the steel container when disconnected. The relief valve (fig.3) placed inside the retention valve pin, purposes only to liberate the excess gas in order to have the pressure back to the standard safety level, being very important in case of accident and/or fire the relief valve pressure level is higher than the automatic disconnection pressure level in case the transmission system is in operation, this way first the fastening system is liberated and after the relief valve is liberated, but lower than the maximum test pressure of the steel container.

Description

"Coupling Assembly for Petroleum Liquefied Gas with quick fastening, Automatic Disconnection and Retention and Relief Valves"
The current patent has the purpose to present adapted soiutions to one only assembly, facilitating the use of Petroleum Liquefied Gas (GLP), minimizing customers efforts in their homes and workplaces, and increase the safety during its use as well as during transportation and warehousing, being this assembly, mounted on the steel container's mouth used in transportation and storage of the petroleum liquefied gas The technics state for the valve used on the container's mouth is regulated by the Norm NBR 8614, the pressure regulator for the petroleum liquefied gas is regulated by the Norm NBR 8473, and the steel container used for transportation and storage of the petroleum liquefied gas, by NBR 8460. These norms are issued by the Brazilian Technical Norms Association ( ABNT)
The utilization in large scale of the petroleum iiquefied gas (GLP), in households as well as in business and industries, causes inconvenient risks to the users, risks on storage and transportation by the distribution system, by the incorrect handling on the exchange of containers, and also the storage during use
In the places where the petroleum liquefied gas is used there is no condition to measure the available quantity, and for this reason the exchange of the empty container by the full one has to be performed while the gas is burning or with the burning in operation (for example: stove, water heating, forklifts, etc ), causing a significant waste of time It is frequent that the lack of tools to exchange the containers make the disconnection of the thread impossible, caused by rust or the thread's high torque and even the physical strength of the user impedes the completion of the activity. When connecting the full container, starting to turn the thread before the sealing of the regulator pin with the rubber ring, the retention valve is already open causing a little leakage, and it is worse when the operation in turning into the thread occurs incorrectly, which can cause a thread damage maintaining the pin out of its proper place causing a continuous leakage of gas into the environment, many times, in trying to exchange some wounds and cuts to the person because of space conditions and the size of the pressure regulator lever occur Another problem is that during the steel container's filling up with the petroleum liquefied gas, there exists a little leakage, but it is considerable taking into consideration the volume of the filling operation daily into the environment
Another inconvenience is the storage and transportation, because the current safety valve used, break itself with the increasing of internal pressure caused by the volume decrease (eg caused by the container crash) or by increase of temperature caused by fire, in both cases, all gas is liberated into the environment increasing the fuel available for combustion, and therefore increasing a lot the risk of fire in the first case and the size of fire in the second one This also happens when the user stores the container in an improper place and/or manner especially when not aware of this problem
Thinking about al! the inconvenience and in increasing the safety, without affecting the filling up operation, and therefore the distribution system, this assembly was projected and is composed of - quick fastening and disconnection system, where it happens by a simple effort and movement applied by the regulator's pin on the spheres and with a contrary force in the disconnection, performing also with safety because the disconnection happens automatically when a pre-determined pressure set in the project is reached, protecting the rest of the system against the increase of pressure,
- double sealing system in the fastening of the steel container with the pressure regulator pin in order to avoid that the retention valve open before the sealing by the rubber rings occur avoiding the leakage into the environment, - the retention valve sealing system with guided pin in order to avoid that the sealing is damaged when the container is not fastened,
- the relief valve safety system which by the internal pressure increase, because of the above mentioned problems, liberates enough volume of gas in order to decrease the internal pressure returning to the sealing position The attached drawing are in numerical conformity among themselves presenting a kit - the drawing 1/6, is the standard scheme for the installation of the petroleum liquefied gas transmission system, where item 1 is the steel container for storage and transport of the petroleum liquefied gas, item 2 is the kit described in this report, item 3 is the pressure regulator and item 4 is the PVS hose;
- the drawing 2/6, presents the kit's cut view in order to show the fastening moment, being in the final position of the fastening pin (2J 7) of the pressure regulator, but with no scale,
- the drawing 3/6 presents, in a partial cut the framework (1 1 ) and the bushing welded on the framework (1 2) of the steel container, the kit (2) assembled on the container's mouth, being the pressure regulator (3) in the fastening position, without scale,
- the drawing 4/6, presents the kit's cut view in the neutral and fastened position, where all the items of the kit can be observed in scale 2 1 , - the drawing 5/6, presents a cut figure of the kit formed by the figures
1 , 2 and 3, and being the kit and the pressure regulator (3) with the pin (2J7) assembled in the disconnected position, in scale 1 :1 ;
- the drawing 6/6 divided in figures, where a number 1 is the fastening and disconnection system (Scale 2 1 ), number 2 is the retention valve body (Scale 2:1 ) and number 3 is the retention valve pin with the internal assembly which forms the relief valve (Scale 3:1 )
In conformity with the drawing above mentioned, the kit consists of the quick fastening system (fig 1 ) of manual operation, by the simple effort, in which the pin (2 17) assembled on the pressure regulate (3) introduced by a force applied in the direction indicated in the drawing by arrow "A" (drawing 2/6) in the mobile female point (2 1 + 2.3) is guided, therefore gets no inclination making it easier to complete the introduction avoiding any leakage to happen at the moment of the container's substitution during its operation, thus, continuing the movement the detail "D" (drawing 5/6) meets the spheres (2 5) making the spring (2.4) which is in contact with the mobile female point (2J+2 3) releases until the spheres (2 5) to meet the channel on the fastening system body (2.2), the spheres (2 5) then are displaced by the front side angle of detail "D" (drawing 5/6) and the pin point diameter (2 17) indicated by letter "C" (drawing 5/6) already met the first (2 6) and second fastening sealing rings (2.7), it starts to push the retention valve (2 16) point, the retention valve opens (2.9+2 10), the detail "D" finishes to pass by spheres (2 5), at this moment, the spring (2.4), which released wants to return to the neural original position pulling the whole system back composed by mobile female point (2J+2 3) and the spheres (2 5), and a metallic click can be heard, the regulator is released, the pin (2 17) of the regulator returns fixing itself between the spheres (2.5) and the angle indicated by the letter "E" (drawing 5/6).
Being the system fastened (drawing 2/6 and 3/6) as a result of the area under the internal pressure, a part of the total force generated by the contact of the spheres with the angle of the pin (2J7) indicated by the letter "E" is transferred being the force pre-determined for the spring (2.4) to nullify this force, but with an increase of pressure, it starts to transfer a higher force making the spring to release on the direction indicated by letter "B" ( drawing 5/6) and the fastening goes with spheres movement, thus the higher the pressure, the higher is the force acts on the pin and the more the spring releases until the spheres meet the channel on the superior part of the body's neutral position (2.2) of the fastening system, liberating the pin (2 17), because detail "D" has already been liberated, being this disconnection pressure also pre-determined on the project
The retention valve (fig 2), in relation to the whole kit, was planned in order to have the close of the gas at the moment of the disconnection, and the opening as described above only after the fastening sealing, being also the projected passage area to provide the maximum flow on the container's filling operation, to complete, it has a displacement guide (2 12) and a guide tightening ring (2J 3), to maintain the proper angle of the sealing ring (2 9), assembled on the retention pin (2J0) in relation to the tightening body (2 8), even the spring (2.1 1 ) having any variation on the contact angle The retention valve pin (2 10) has an internal relief valve (fig 3), constituted by a sphere (2 14), which performs tne sealing, a spring (2J5) compressed between the sphere and a screw (2 16), acting in result of the distance, a force on the sphere, and therefore, a pressure of opening for the glass passage, being this pressure higher during disconnection, but lower than the maximum test pressure of the steel container.
It is important to emphasize, that for each application, it may exist a specific need, such as the size of the external thread for the container's mouth, the fastening force, the internal disconnection pressure, or even a higher flow of the valves, thus this kind of kit can be obtained in different sizes.
