Abstract

Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour préchauffer du fer de réduction directe (DRI) avant son introduction dans un four métallurgique tel qu'un four à arc électrique. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact le DRI avec un gaz non oxydant, réducteur ou de cémentation, à une température élevée. La présente invention concerne également un moyen permettant de réduire la demande électrique à l'intérieur du four (par l'utilisation d'une source de chaleur moins coûteuse) et, plus important encore, permettant de réduire l'intervalle entre deux coulées et donc d'améliorer la productivité du four de fusion. Eventuellement, l'invention peut être exploitée pour également augmenter la teneur en carbone du DRI à charger.
