  • US 4 946 191 illustrates a side impact airbag system to protect the head and shoulder of a vehicle occupant.
  • US 5 782 529 provides for rear impact protection by including an inflatable cushion in the seat back to reduce injuries to the spinal vertebrae and ligaments during a rear impact collision.
  • Most of the proposed airbag systems define an airbag, which protects one particular portion of the human anatomy.
  • FIG. 1 is a rear isometric view of a typical prior art automotive vehicle seat.
