Abstract

The invention concerns a package for an integrated circuit card comprising electromagnetic remote communication means (16), including an envelope (20) enclosing the card (10). The invention is characterised in that the package comprises at least a barrier foil (24) in conductive material which is arranged opposite one face of the card (10) and extends substantially opposite said communication means (16).

An anti-fraud for packaging an integrated circuit card comprising remote communication means electromagnetically.

The invention particularly relates to a package for an IC card of the contactless type, for example of the type in which a plate-like card body carries an integrated and an antenna by which the IC circuit is adapted to communicate remotely with a receiving terminal, and the type wherein the antenna extending in the plane of the card body is formed as a coil or a winding, over several turns, of a conductive path.

In a particularly common application, the integrated circuit cards, also called smart cards are used as a means of payment for a service. Each use of the corresponding service, at least one unit of value is decremented in an initial stock of units of value loaded into the memory of the smart card. Such applications are found for example in telephone cards and the photocopier cards.

Also, users buy a card that is initially provided in memory of a given number of units of value corresponding to the maximum credit.

In most applications in which the IC card is used as means of payment cards used are contact type card in which the card includes conductive tracks which are connected to the integrated electronic module or circuit, and intended to allow an electrical connection between the card and the receiving terminal.

In this case, it is quite easy to ensure the user purchases a card supposed contain the maximum number of credits by simply surrounding map of a sealed envelope, such as a packing "cellophane", that is to say plastic material. The packaging alteration of absence attests to the presence of a maximum number of units. Such a solution is however not satisfactory when it comes to a contactless card with which the exchange of information takes place remotely, for instance by electromagnetic waves. Indeed, this information exchange can then be done through the cellophane envelope, which can no longer guarantee by the non-prior use of the card.

The invention therefore aims to propose a solution to the above problem.

To this end, the invention proposes to have the anti-fraud means in the package of an integrated circuit card, or smart card, making it possible to prevent any fraudulent use of the card before a first use thereof by an authorized user.

More specifically, the invention provides an anti-fraud package containing an integrated circuit card comprising remote communication means electromagnetically, of the type comprising an envelope around the map. It is characterized in that it comprises at least one barrier sheet of conducting material which is arranged opposite a face of the card and extending substantially facing the communication means. According to other features of the invention:

- the casing comprises a plastic sheet material on which is superimposed the conductive material barrier sheet;

- the envelope comprises at least one plastic sheet material and a sheet of juxtaposed conductive material;

- the conductive material barrier sheet is a sheet which is distinct from the casing and which is interposed between the card and the envelope;

- the communication means are constituted by a winding of an electrical conductor, and the conductive barrier material sheet is arranged facing the winding over the entire area thereof; - the package comprises two barrier sheets of conductive material each disposed on one side of the card;

- the barrier sheet is made of metallic material;

- the barrier sheet (24) is made of aluminum.

The invention also relates to an anti-fraud for packaging an integrated circuit card comprising remote communication means electromagnetically, of the type comprising an envelope around the map. It is characterized in that the envelope comprises at least one barrier sheet of conductive material.

Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from reading the following detailed description for the understanding of which reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is a plan schematic view of a circuit board integrated with a remote communication antenna electromagnetically;

- Figure 2 is a similar view to that of Figure 1 illustrating the IC card once packed in the package according to the teachings of the invention;

- Figure 3 illustrates a card beads packed in accordance with the teachings of the invention; and

- Figures 4, 5 and 6 are schematic sectional views along line 5-5 of Figure 3 illustrating three embodiments of the invention.

Illustrated in Figure 1 an IC card 10 of a known type. The board 10 essentially comprises a card body 12, eg made of plastic to the standardized format of a credit card. The card 10 comprises an electronic microcircuit 14 arranged inside the card body 12, and communication means 16 that enable the chip 14 to communicate remotely with a read / write appropriate (not shown) belonging to a card reader.

In this case, the communication means are designed in the form of an antenna 16 itself formed by winding a conductor 18 according coplanar concentric coils contained in the plane of the card 1 0.

In known manner, the antenna 16 may be made with a wire wound or it may be produced by depositing a conductive ink.

This antenna 16 is capable of converting an electromagnetic field into an electric current, and vice versa, so as to allow remote interrogation of the microcircuit 14 and potentially allow the modification of the contents of a memory of the microcircuit 14.

Of course, in some applications, the integrated circuit card 1 0 may include, in addition, the contact communication means for exchanging information between the chip 14 and the card reader via the contact tracks arranged on the card and connected to the microcircuit 14.

It is known to pack the card 10 in a package of the type shown in Figure 2 comprising a housing 20 formed of a plastic film material which completely envelope the card 10 and which is sealed at its edges 22. Next the case, the sealed edges 22 may be more or less close to the edges of the card 10. According to the teachings of the invention, the packaging of the card 10 which is illustrated in Figure 2 further comprises a conductive sheet material 24 which is arranged against one of the faces of the card, next to the antenna 16, so as to inhibit or disrupt the antenna 16 signals between the reader and the card, that is to say so as to make it ineffective, thereby preventing any remote communication between the chip 14 and a possible reading or recording device.

Indeed, the sheet 24 of conductive material form an electromagnetic barrier which prevents the antenna 16 to fulfill its role.

Is schematically illustrated in Figures 4 to 6 several embodiments that accomplish simple and economical manner a package for an IC card 10 according to the teachings of the invention. In the examples illustrated, casing 20 comprises a backsheet 26 and a topsheet 28 between which card 10 is intended to be interposed. In the example which is illustrated schematically in Figure 4, the barrier sheet 24 is constructed as a sheet separate conductive material of the envelope 20. The sheet 24 extends next to one of the faces of the card 10, and is thus interposed between one of the sheets of the envelope 20 and the card 10. the barrier sheet 24 is introduced into the envelope together with the card 10.

In the example of Figure 5, the barrier sheet 24 is superposed on the plastic film constituting the casing 20 of the package. This plastic sheet may for example be laminated on one of the surfaces of the packaging, preferably on the inside of the casing, and it can also be adhered by any suitable means.

In the example of Figure 6, it can be seen that the conductive material 24 in barrier sheet forms a part of the casing 20 which surrounds the card 10. In the illustrated case, the topsheet 28 of the envelope 20 is therefore consisting of a central band formed by the barrier sheet 24 and two lateral strips 32 of plastic. The side strips 30 are then juxtaposed with the barrier sheet 24. Of course, as can be seen in Figure 3, packaging of IC cards 10 is generally configured as a string, that is means that the sheets forming the envelope 20 cards are continuous, the casing of each card being individualized for example by precut lines 32 made at a sealed edge 22 transverse. To ensure a perfect inhibition of the antenna 26, it is necessary to ensure that the barrier sheet 24 extends opposite the entire extent of the antenna 26. Also, depending on the tolerances of positioning the card, and according to different possible positions of the antenna 26, 24 will be provided a large enough barrier sheet.

In the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures, the package comprises a barrier sheet 24, but in some applications it may be necessary to provide two sheets 24 arranged one on each side of the card 26 facing one another.

The barrier sheet 24 may be made of any conductive material and in particular with the aid of a sheet of metallic material such as aluminum. However, other metal materials may be suitable and it is also possible to use a polymer film charged with conductive particles.

Similarly, it is possible to provide that the entire shell 20 is made of conductive material, which then provides to provide an added barrier sheet. Although the invention has been described with reference to a smart card, it can also be applied to any support chip containing an electromagnetic communication interface, such as an electronic label, sticker antenna contactless module. .. the smart card password must be understood in the present invention broadly to any support smart.

Claims

1. anti-fraud package containing an integrated circuit card comprising means (16) for remote communication by electromagnetic means, of the type comprising an envelope (20) around the board, characterized in that it comprises at least one barrier sheet ( 24) of conductive material which is arranged opposite a face of the card (10) and extending substantially facing the communication means (16).
2. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the casing (20) comprises a sheet (28) of plastic material on which is superimposed the barrier sheet (24) of conductive material.
3. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the envelope comprises at least one plastic sheet material (24) and a sheet of juxtaposed conductive material.
4. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the barrier sheet (24) of conductive material is a sheet which is distinct from the casing (20) and which is interposed between the board (10) and the casing (20 ).
5. Packaging according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the communication means (16) are constituted by a winding of an electrical conductor (18), and in that the barrier sheet (24) of conductive material is arranged opposite the winding over the entire area thereof.
6. Packing according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the package comprises two barrier sheets (24) of conductive material disposed one on each side of the card (10).
7. Packaging according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the barrier sheet (24) is made of metallic material.
8. Packaging according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the barrier sheet (24) is made of aluminum.
9. Anti-fraud Packaging for IC card having means (16) for remote communication by electromagnetic means, of the type comprising an envelope (20) around the board, characterized in that it comprises at least one barrier sheet (24) of conductive material.
