Abstract

A base station of a cordless telephone, comprising a housing (5), provides for 'camouflaging' the front panel of a lid (15) by using a replaceable decorative strap secured to the lid (15) by a detached fixing member, e.g. by a frame (17) with protrusions (18 and 19) along its longer sides. The replaceable decorative strap may be, for example, a sheet of paper with a picture, a photograph, a clock, a mirror, etc. The device can be placed horizontally on a table, hung vertically on a wall, or placed on a support surface in an inclined manner, wherefore the housing (5) is provided with a hinged support (8) and is made with a local recess on the rear side of the housing for placement of the hinged support (8) therein. The device has a telephone line interface, a high-frequency module, connectors, which are mounted on a printed circuit board and it also comprises control and indicating members. The indicating members are brought out to a lateral side of the lid (15).

Description

BASE STATION OF CORDLESS TELEPHONE Field of the Invention

The invention relates to communications means, namely to terminal devices of a subscriber telephone network and in particular to cordless telephone system operating in the DECT standard.

Background of the Invention

Known are base stations of cordless telephones, which have a cast housing in which an interface to a telephone line, a high-frequency module and connectors are mounted on a printed circuit board. The housing is closed by a lid. The device is provided with indication and control members and also with connectors. Usually the lid is made as an integral part. The housing is also made as an integral part. The base stations of cordless telephones may be placed either horizontally or vertically. In the latter case shaped slots are made in the housing in order to hang the base station of a cordless telephone in a vertical position.

Known is a wireless telephone system (Japanese application No. 6036537, patentee Midzuno Sedzi K.K., priority 29 December 1989, 1-343186, published 1 1 May 1994). The system comprises a base station of a cordless telephone, a charging device and a cordless portable handset. The base station of the cordless telephone has a cast housing with holes for leading out the indicating and control devices and may be placed horizontally or hung vertically. Such a base station does not perform any other functions than those that are provided by the main purposes of the base station of a cordless telephone.

Also known is a base station of a cordless telephone ("Handbook on Servicing DECT-COM 757," BOSCH, D-60277, Frankfurt-am-Main, 1977, pp. 3-4, 8-9). This base station of the cordless telephone consists of a housing in which an interface to a telephone line, a high-frequency module and connectors are mounted. The housing is closed by a lid. The device also has control and indicating members. Wherewith, the indicating member in the form of a light-emitting diode is positioned on the front panel of the lid, and the control member is put on a lateral face. The connectors are located at the point of junction of the housing and lid from the side of the control member. The base station of the cordless telephone may be placed either horizontally or vertically by means of shaped slots in the housing.

The object of the instant invention is to introduce an additional element ensuring "camouflage" of the base station of a cordless telephone, and also to expand the possibilities of the base station of a cordless telephone, in particular, to ensure the possibility of its being placed horizontally, at some angle to a horizontal plane, and vertically in a hung position.

The essence of the invention is that the base station of a cordless telephone comprises a housing in which at least an interface to a telephone line, a high-frequency module and connectors are mounted on a printed circuit board. Indicating members and a lid are also provided. Wherein, the lid is provided with a replaceable decorative strap which is secured to the lid by means of a removable fixing member and covers its front panel. The removable fixing member is a frame made, for example, with a U-shaped profile along its perimeter, with protrusions along the long sides and with members for securing it to the lid positioned at the inner side of the protrusions. The indicating member is led out to a lateral side of the lid of the device by means of light conductor inserts. The base station of a cordless telephone may be placed horizontally, hung vertically by means of slots provided in the rear side of the housing. The base station of a cordless telephone may also be placed at an angle to a horizontal surface due to the presence of a hinged support on the housing. The hinged support is disposed in a local recess at the rear side of the housing.

Providing the lid with a replaceable decorative strap (made for example, as a sheet of paper with a picture, a photograph, a clock, a mirror, etc.) covering the front panel of the lid and fastened thereto by means of the removable fixing member provides additional "camouflaging" functions of an article to the base unit, which ensures that the claimed device conforms with the "novelty" criterion. Making the removable fixing member with a U-shaped profile along the perimeter with protrusions along the long sides and with members for fixing it to the lid which are positioned on the inner side of the protrusions, and also leading out the indicating members onto the lateral side by means of placing light conductor inserts on the lateral side of the lid in combination with the preceding feature ensure that the device conforms with the "inventive level" criterion. Expansion of the possibilities of the base station of a cordless telephone is ensured by providing the housing with a hinged support and by making the housing with a local recess on the back side for placing the hinged support therein. Thus, as compared with the known prior art, the claimed base station of a cordless telephone may be placed horizontally on a table, hung vertically on a wall, placed on a support surface in an inclined manner due to shaped holes on the rear panel of the housing and the presence of the hinged support. The main distinction over the known solutions is that the lid is provided with a decorative strap covering the front panel of the lid and secured by means of a fixing member which is a frame made with a U- shaped profile along the perimeter with protrusions along the long sides and with members fixing it to the lid, which became possible due to leading the indicating members out to the lateral side of the lid by means of placing light conductor inserts on the lid. Thus, the base station of the cordless telephone may be "camouflaged" to look like a picture, photograph, mirror, while performing its main functions at the same time.

The device is industrially applicable.

Brief Description of the Drawings

Further the description is explained by the best embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings. The presented example of the construction of the base station of the cordless telephone is not the only embodiment and the presence of other realizations is presumed, the specific features of which are reflected in the combination of features of the set of claims.

Description of a Preferred Embodiment

The base station of a cordless telephone includes a processor module, an interface to a telephone line, a high-frequency module, connectors 2, a secondary power supply (which are not shown in the drawings), which are mounted on a printed circuit board 1.

Connectors 2 (FIG. 13), a control member in the form of a button 3 (Figs. 1 , 13) and an indicating member in the form of light-emitting diodes 4 (FIG. 4) are also mounted on the printed circuit board 1. The printed circuit board 1 is placed inside a housing 5

(FIG. 9) of varying depth and is rigidly secured, for example, by means of self-tapping screws 6 (FIG. 9).

The button 3 is positioned on a lateral side of the housing 5. A local recess 7 (FIG. 5) is made on the rear side of the housing 5. A hinged support 8, ensuring the positioning of the base station of a cordless telephone inclined to a horizontal plane, for example, a table, is positioned inside the local recess 7.

The hinged support 8 is secured to the housing 5 in a hinged manner by means of an axle 9. One end of the axle 9 is made in the form of a two-tab collet 10 which provides resilience in a radial direction and has a collar 1 1 preventing the axle 9 from falling out. The other end of the axle 9 has a thickening 12. The axle 9 is

3aMeHflioι Miι JIMCT mounted in co-axial 13 in the local recess 7 of the housing 5 and the hinged support 8. The hinged support 8 may have units fixing it in the working position (which are not shown in the drawings).

Two shaped holes 14 (FIG. 13) are located in the rear wall of the housing 5, by means of which the base station may be hung on a wall, and the connectors 2 are also led out.

The housing 5 is closed by a lid 15.

The lid 15 has light conductor inserts 16 (FIG. 6) which serve to direct light from the light-emitting diode 4. The light conductor inserts 16 are positioned on a side edge of the front panel of the lid 15, thus, the indicating member is led out to the side edge of the front panel of the lid 15.

Securing the lid 15 to the housing 5 is also effected by means of self-tapping screws 6.

The device is provided with a frame 17 (Figs. 1 , 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 1 1 , 12). The frame 17 has dimensions corresponding to the dimensions of the housing 5 and the front panel of the lid 15.

The frame 17 in cross section is U-shaped along its perimeter. The long sides of the frame 17 are provided with protrusions 18 and 19 (FIG. 9). The upper side is provided with protrusion 18, and the lower with protrusion 19. Fixing members made in the form of, for example, lugs 20 (FIG. 10), are provided to fix the frame 17 on the lid 15. The lugs 20 are positioned on the inner side of the protrusions 18 and 19 and are made in the form of, for example, hemispheres made integral with the frame 17. The presence of at least two spaced lugs 20 on each long side of the frame 17 is necessary for reliable fixation of the frame 17. Light conductor inserts 21 (FIG. 1 ), positioned in correspondence (co-axially) with the light conductor inserts 16, are provided on the right-hand external side of the frame 17.

The light conductor inserts 16 may be placed also, for example, on a lateral side of the lid 15 (not shown in the drawings). This is one embodiment of the solution. Such an arrangement of the light conductor inserts 16 results in that there is no necessity to provide light conductor inserts 21 on a frame 17. Such an embodiment does not affect the functional parameters of the device, and therefore claim 3 of the set of claims is set forth in a more generic form as compared with the national application.

Fixation of the frame 17 to the lid 15 is carried out by interaction of the lugs 20 on the protrusions 18 and 19 with the corresponding recesses 27. The protrusions 18 and 19, elastically deforming, separate by a distance which makes it possible to insert the lug 20 into the recess 27, then they return to the initial position, ensuring fixation of the frame 17 relative to the lid 15. Thus, attachment of the replaceable decorative strap 25 by means of the frame 17 is realized, thereby covering the front panel of the lid 15 (camouflaging it).

For the base station of a cordless telephone to be placed on a table, the hinged support 8 is turned about the axle 9 into the working position relative to the housing 5, as a result of which the base station of a cordless telephone is inclined.

For the base station of the cordless telephone to be hung on a wall, the hinged support 8 is folded into the housing 5 flush with the external plane of the housing 5.

In order to remove the replaceable decorative strap 25 from the frame 17, it is necessary to move the frame 17 in a longitudinal direction relative to the housing 5 so that the lugs 20 of the protrusions 18 and 19 leave the recesses 27. After that the frame

17 should be detached from the lid 15 and the replaceable decorative strap 25 taken out to be replaced.

The integrity of the housing 5 is not disturbed without the frame 17.

Industrial Applicability

The claimed base station of a cordless telephone in combination with a portable handset of a cordless telephone and with a charging device works in the DECT standard as a terminal facility of a subscriber telephone network, in particular as a cordless telephone system.

Claims
1. A base station of a cordless telephone comprising a housing 5 in which at least an interface to a telephone line, a high-frequency module and connectors 2 are mounted on a printed circuit board 1 , and also comprising control and indicating members and a lid 15, characterized in that the lid 15 is provided with a replaceable decorative strap 25 which covers its front panel and is secured to the lid 15 by means of a removable fixing member.
2. A device according to claim 1 , characterized in that the removable fixing member is a frame 17 made with a U-shaped profile along its perimeter, with protrusions
18, 19 along the long sides and with fixing members, for example lugs 20, which are positioned at the inner side of the protrusions 18, 19.
3. A device according to claim 1 , characterized in that the indicating member is led out to a lateral side of the lid 15 by means of light conductor inserts 16.
4. A device according to claim 1 , characterized in that the housing 5 is provided with a hinged support 8.
5. A device according to claim 1 , characterized in that the housing 5 is made with a local recess 7 on the rear side for placement of the hinged support 8 therein.
6. A device according to claim 1 , characterized in that the replaceable decorative strap may be, for example, a sheet of paper with a picture, a photograph, a clock, a mirror, etc.
