Abstract

According to the invention a stationary radar system covering an area of action to be placed under surveillance, such as an airport, seaport or river port, generates radar images. Onto each radar image of the area of action under surveillance which is generated by means of the radar system an optical image (aerial image) of the same area of action is superimposed by means of a data processing system. The combination image of the area of action obtained by this superimposition is transmitted to an observation and surveillance platform of a tower and from there to receiving monitors of moving targets in the area of action and represented on same. From the plurality of moving targets of a combination image the current position of, and possibly also a part of the path already travelled by, a moving target can be shown (by afterglow) on its receiving monitor by means of a differential GPS receiving unit which is assigned to said moving target and with which it can connect.

Beschreibung description
Verfahren zum Darstellen von Radarbildern eines zu überwachenden AktionsbereichsMethod for displaying radar images of an action area to be monitored
Technisches GebietTechnical field
The invention relates to a method for displaying radar images of an action area to be monitored, such as an airport, sea or inland port or a similar action area.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
A radar system, which is followed by a data processing system, is generally used to monitor such action areas. If, for example, a building is detected with a stationary radar system with a rotating antenna, for example from the tower of an airport or from a corresponding building of a seaport, a strong backscatter signal is obtained which is displayed on screens of the radar system.
This representation corresponds essentially to a kind of perspective front view of buildings, has no noteworthy structures and is composed of a large number of strong point-shaped backscatter signals. In the illustration, for example, edges and other striking, highly reflective areas of a detected building are particularly prominent.
Even in the case of a high-resolution radar image, a continuous image is not obtained, which can be captured with a visual visual representation of the building is comparable. In addition, a display obtained by means of radar is always a reproduction in black and white.
Darstellung der ErfindungPresentation of the invention
The object of the invention is therefore to improve a display obtained by means of a radar system to the effect that existing, movable, i.e. moving and / or stationary ("parked") targets are much easier to interpret or identify.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by methods for displaying radar images of an action area to be monitored, such as an airport, sea or inland port or a similar action area, with the features in the characterizing part of claim 1 or 2. Advantageous further developments are the subject of the claims which are directly or indirectly related to claims 1 or 2.
In a first embodiment of the method according to the invention, an optical image or a representation approximating a cartographic reproduction (which is referred to below as a map representation or aerial photograph) of exactly the same region is superimposed on a radar image of a current state of the action area to be monitored, which is generated by means of a radar system ; A combination image obtained by this superimposition process of a radar image and the optical image (aerial image) is then displayed on a screen.
In connection with the implementation of the method according to the invention, a radar system with an antenna rigidly mounted on a building, preferably on the tower of an airport, sea or inland port, such as that described in DE 40 07 611 C2 or 40 07 612, is advantageous C2 is known. In this case, an optical image is understood to mean a continuous image of the action area to be monitored, which corresponds to a photographic reproduction, with a continuous image being an image which is prepared in such a way that in such an image only those for monitoring and handling air or ship traffic Required fixed facilities, such as buildings and ground or port facilities including the entire airfield / taxiway or the entire port are shown, but all moving, changing locations such as planes, ships, tugs, service vehicles, tankers, passenger buses, baggage carts, etc. and all temporarily or temporarily "parked" (stationary, moored) objects are not included. In other words, this means in the continuous image or aerial image of an area of activity to be monitored, for example in the manner of an airport, sea or inland port , is its flight / runway or its actual port area completely empty.
According to a second preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the combination image of an action area obtained by the superimposition process is displayed on an observation or monitoring platform of a tower of air, sea or inland ports, and from there is transmitted to reception monitors from moving targets in the action area and displayed there. This enables the tower to be connected to each of the mobile targets staffed with personnel, which are usually already equipped with the corresponding receiving devices required for communication, in order to provide appropriate instructions or information, if applicable, also with regard to mobile targets located in the immediate vicinity Goals.
Wenn bereits mittels des Radarsystems erfaßte bewegliche Ziele in Farbe wiedergegeben werden, wird das mittels des Differential-GPS erfaßte bewegliche Ziel durch eine besonders markante Farbmarkierung gekennzeichnet .Furthermore, according to a preferred development of a second embodiment of the method according to the invention from the A large number of moving targets, which are shown on a transmitted combination image, by means of a signal from a differential GPS (Global Positioning System) receiving and processing device, each of which is assigned to a specific moving target and can be activated from there, its current position and if necessary, at least a part of the distance covered by this movable target can also be highlighted (for example by afterglow) on its reception monitor, preferably also by means of a color marking. If moving targets already detected by means of the radar system are reproduced in color, the moving target detected by means of the differential GPS is identified by a particularly distinctive color marking.
If, as is already the case today in most of the larger airports, seaports or inland ports, a GPS signal processing device is present, the method according to the invention enables a highly precise observation and monitoring system for such flight, sea and or inland ports. By linking the GPS signal processing device on a tower and the differential GPS signal processing device on the moving targets as well as reception and display devices, such as monitors, displays, etc., which are also generally present in the moving targets, this has Personnel from moving targets, such as pilots, captains, skippers, pilots, generally vehicle drivers, not only have a very precise position of their own vehicle available, but at the same time also receive comprehensive information about vehicles in the near and far surroundings and their expected directions of travel.
Furthermore, according to the invention, by enlarging certain sectors of interest of the action area to be monitored, for example by zooming, the personnel are given access to the moving destinations have a much better overview, especially of the immediate surroundings.
According to an expedient, advantageous development of the invention, an optical image / aerial image of the action area to be monitored, which is to be superimposed on the radar image, is stored in the data processing system. Such a stored image can then be used as a background for a radar image, the dimensions of which are adapted to the stored image.
As soon as a combination image composed of a radar image and an optical image superimposed thereon or an optical image underlaid as a background for the radar image is available, persons who monitor the action area captured by the radar, for example, also clearly recognizable points, edges on the radar image, among other things, from fixed immovable targets, such as buildings, any other fixed facilities, etc. originate, easier to interpret as such, precisely identifiable in terms of their location and thus immediately clearly assign them to any fixed, non-moving target.
An advantageous further development of the method according to the invention also consists in storing the optical image in color in the data processing system and thus storing it ready for retrieval. If such a colored optical image is used as a background for a radar image that is appropriately adapted in terms of its dimensions and, due to the system, can only be displayed in black and white, the interpretation of the combination image obtained as a result, as well as the assignment and identification of striking, particularly emphasized on the radar image Digits, edges and other improvements. According to a further advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, all backscattered points of fixed elements or targets of a scene, which are also present in the optical image, can be hidden in the radar image, which is preferably backed by an optical continuous image or a corresponding map representation in color , so that only the backscattered points of targets not present in the optical image / map are recorded and displayed in the underlying optical image / map.
In this way, for example, not only incorrectly parked objects but also objects, such as containers temporarily parked for a certain time, can be deliberately parked for preparing an imminent transport, among other things. be recorded, and in this way the surveillance personnel can be made particularly clear and impressive.
In a particularly advantageous manner, a combination image created according to the invention can be used to identify moving targets such as smaller vehicles, transport vehicles, luggage carts, etc. or even larger to large vehicles, such as airplanes, ships, not only to be interpreted as such, but at the same time the position or the distance traveled immediately beforehand by a moving target can also be identified very precisely.
In addition, according to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, all targets detected by means of the radar system that are not present in the optical image, namely both stationary (“parked”) and moving targets, can be emphasized in such a way that the following Hiding all fixed targets of a scene remaining targets that are not present in the optical image can be assigned a color the moving targets detected are assigned a different color than the temporarily parked, stationary targets.
In addition, both parked and moving targets that are not present in different sections of the optical image, but are detected by means of the radar system, can be passed on sector by sector in different colors.
The method according to the invention thus creates numerous possibilities for considerably simplifying and improving the interpretation of a radar image not only with regard to moving targets, but also with regard to temporarily or temporarily existing solid objects or targets.
