Description

Tragbares Navigationsgerät und Navigations erfahren für SportlerPortable navigation device and navigation experience for athletes
The invention relates to a portable navigation device with a data memory, a screen, a GPS unit, a logic and a central computer unit, an operating device, a power supply and a housing, according to the preamble of the independent claim, for displaying the geographical position of the navigation device according to the GPS signals.
Zentimeterbereich.Since the availability of the GPS (Global Positioning System), which is based on the principle of triangulation, navigation devices have been widely used as orientation aids. Geostationary satellites serve as triangulation points for the GPS. Location determinations on the surface of the earth using GPS today provide reliable information both in the lateral-horizontal and in the vertical direction up to an error in the millimeter or centimeter range.
On the one hand, voluminous navigation systems are known in automobiles, ships, airplanes and other means of transport with sufficient carrying capacity and space for accommodating these systems, which often include receiving parts and energy stores that are spatially separated from the display device. On the other hand, advancing miniaturization in electronics enables the manufacture of portable navigation systems.
Portable navigation devices of the generic type are known from WO 96/14558 and GB-A-2, 298, 539. In WO 96/14558, this is a navigation device which displays a realistic image of a digitized, geographic map and provides information about the position of the device via a GPS unit. The device receives the card pictures via a "flashcard", an insertable card with a Memory chip. GB-A-2, 298, 539 relates to a handheld tour guide with a GPS receiver, the information of which is displayed on a flat LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen or - in an alternative embodiment - on the inside of sunglasses projected image are readable. Both documents also disclose the installation of an electronic compass in these navigation devices and covers for their protection.
The object of the invention is to propose an alternative, portable navigation system which can also be used by athletes when practicing their sport. Of course, athletes are understood to be people of both sexes.
According to the invention, the object is achieved by proposing a portable navigation device with a screen, a GPS unit, a logic, an operating device, a data storage device, an energy supply and a housing, which is characterized by a fastening means for fastening the navigation device to the body of an athlete is. Further designs and embodiments result from the dependent claims.
Es zeigen:The invention is illustrated below with the aid of drawings, which merely represent examples and are in no way intended to limit the scope of the invention. Show it:

Diese Daten, welche mittels einer Bedienungseinrichtung 5 aus dem Datenspeicher abgerufen werden, können beispielsweiseFig. 1 shows a plan view of the screen of the navigation device 1, according to a first embodiment, e.g. for skiers. The screen 2 - preferably a high-resolution black / white or color screen - occupies a large part of the surface 3 of the navigation device. An operating device 5 is embedded in the side surfaces 4, which preferably comprises four buttons; however, any other number of buttons or further operating elements can also be provided. This operating device 5 can be used to change the display on the screen or to call up data from the data memory and display them. However, data can also be entered into the navigation device via the operating device 5 and stored in the data memory. For sports such as Skiing and hiking is advantageous if the screen 2 and the operating device 5 are connected to the navigation device 1 in a splash-proof or even waterproof manner. Connected to the navigation device - or at least temporarily connectable - is a fastening means 6 in the form of a band, a hoop or another item of clothing, such as Glove, by means of which the athlete can wear the navigation device on the body, preferably on the arm, head, thigh or trunk, while practicing his sport. The screen 2 can display data from the conditions of a specific geographic region in the form of a map. These data, which are retrieved from the data memory by means of an operating device 5, can, for example
In addition, special dangers 15, such as avalanches, can be indicated on the screen 2. Local vegetation and other important obstacles such as canyons and bodies of water can also be displayed. The difficulties of the various ski slopes are also advantageously indicated. The navigation device is equally suitable for alpine and Nordic skiing. Corresponding satellite signals are received via a GPS unit, processed by GPS logic and sent to a central computer unit. A cursor 17 or point is generated on the screen 2 to display the geographic position of the navigation device in accordance with the GPS signals. With the operating device 5, the map can be displayed on the screen 2 in the desired scale and detail. The navigation system 1 is provided with a central energy supply, which is preferably accommodated in the form of batteries in the same housing as the navigation device. The data of the circumstances of a specific geographical region and, if applicable, a permission to use the local one
Einrichtungen (z.B. Devices (e.g. ski pass) are preferably transmitted in a contactless manner via a likewise built-in data reception system for receiving this data and for forwarding it to the data memory of the navigation device 1. The data transfer can e.g. by means of infrared rays or by induction and is preferably very rapid, e.g. in a few seconds.
An optional built-in radio frequency transponder for central recording of the individual geographical position of the navigation device allows the exact location of the skier to be determined via a central system and the athlete to be found if he comes into a situation from which he cannot free himself or herself in which he cannot make itself felt. Life-saving missions in the event of avalanches, fog or possibly off-site Broken bones suffered on the slopes can be significantly simplified by specifying the location of the athlete and their success rate can be increased. The work of search teams can be supported by the optional installation of a transmitter for avalanche search devices. The transmission signal can optionally be switched off - to save energy or as a power saving circuit. The transmission signal for the built-in radio frequency transponder or for the avalanche search device is then preferably activated automatically if an acknowledgment fails after a freely selectable time interval. The operating device 5 advantageously has operating elements that are designed so large that they can be easily operated with gloves. A transparent cover (not shown) can be placed on the navigation device in order to protect the screen and the operating device, opened or slid on.
Fig. 2). If the navigation device is used in accordance with a second embodiment, for example for swimming and diving, increased demands are placed on the watertight connection of the screen and operating devices: the entire navigation device is then preferably designed to be watertight to a diving depth of 100 m (cf. FIG. 2). In this case, the navigation device 1 is preferably carried transversely, so that the screen 2 turns a long side toward the athlete when viewed. So that as large a part of the surface 3 as possible can be used as a screen, three elements of the operating device 5 are designed as so-called “touch screen” fields, for example, a membrane keyboard would be a possible alternative. An electronic compass 18 is shown on the screen Ports 19, towns 20 and bathing beaches 21 can be displayed, among other things. Special hazards 22, such as reefs or places with strong currents, can also be pointed out, while navigation using GPS indicates the location on the water surface by means of a cursor 17 - finished - optionally built-in special devices such as depth gauges, thermometers or clocks indicate the depth, the water temperature or the dive time. A complete dive computer, as is known from the prior art, can also be installed and its displays combined with those of the navigation device, so that, for example, the residual oxygen or the decompression time etc. can be displayed in addition to the data of the immediate environment of the diver.

The infrared receiver 23 is advantageously installed on a narrow side (see FIG. 3) or on the long side, so that the data of conditions of a specific geographical region can be read into the data memory, regardless of whether the navigation device is currently being carried by the athlete, or whether the reading is carried out by a third party. The data from employees of the sports facilities in question can be read into the navigation device, or the athlete can read the required data himself when paying for the user license.
A third embodiment of the navigation device 1 according to the invention enables it to be worn on the head or on the trunk or on a helmet. The device is then worn, for example, using a headband or torso strap or directly attached to the helmet using suitable fastening means. For better reading of the screen information, the device or at least part of it can be designed to be foldable (FIG. 4). Geographical conditions such as lakes 24, train lines 25, train stations 26 are displayed as well as the main wind direction 27 and the north direction 28 (compass). Information about certain dangers 29 such as high-voltage lines or swamps etc. can also be displayed. As an orientation aid for the paraglider, its current position is indicated on the screen via a cursor 17 and its current flight altitude (not shown) by means of the GPS. The invention also encompasses all combinations of the above embodiments, for example alternative orientations of the screen 2, various operating elements, such as buttons, switches or “touch-screen” etc. Optionally, lighting for the screen can be installed; this is advantageously only during the actuation of a control element or active during a certain time interval.
Provision can also be made for the coordinates of a specific position to be entered via the operating device; these are compared with the coordinates of the current position. Both positions are then displayed and the direction (via the compass) and the distance between the positions are given.
Alternative display systems include ski goggles, diving goggles or goggles for paragliders, on the inside of which all information of the navigation device - which is either integrated on the body of the athlete, on his equipment or even in the appropriate glasses - is displayed.
Das Navigationsgerät kann zudem Einrichtungen umfassen, wel- ehe zum Erfassen und Anzeigen von persönlichen Daten desThe navigation device can also include devices before the acquisition and display of personal data of the
Athletes like body temperature, pulse and blood pressure are suitable.
