BABY'S CARRYING HARNESS
The present invention relates to baby's or infant's carrying devices, and particularly to on-the-body, harness-type carriers.
There are known bag-like carrying devices which are worn by the adult against the chest. Also known are knapsack-like carriers adapted to be carried on the back of the adult.
Each type of carrier has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, the front-type carriers limit to a certain extent the maneuverability of the wearer, albeit allow close inspection of the baby. Back-type carriers are disadvantageous in that the baby's field of sight is at least partly obscured by the back of the carrying adult, and, obviously, no visual inspection is available.
The common, main disadvantage of both types resides however in the fact, that pain or even actual damage is almost inevitably caused to the spinal column, due to inappropriate posture, particularly in cases of those who already suffer from back problems.
It is thus the general object of the invention to overcome these and other deficiencies of the conventional baby carriers.
It is a further object of the present invention to devise a novel type of baby carrier which is anchored or supported by the head
of the wearer - rather than the shoulders.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a carrier
which is most simple in construction and therefore significantly less expensive.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a baby
carrier which will minimize the inconvenience and maximize the maneuverability of the user.
It is still a further object of the invention to provide a baby carrier which will minimize/eliminate the discomfort or damage caused to the spinal system.
Thus provided according to the invention is a baby's
carrying harness comprising a first loop adapted to be strapped
around and tightened against the forehead of the carrying adult,
while the baby is seated on his shoulders, and a second loop
adapted to be strapped around and tightened against the baby's
waist, the loops being fastened to each other in an "8"- shape, back-to-back configuration.
Preferably the harness further comprises a pair of shoulder-
straps, one extending along an arc at one side of the second
loop and the other along an arc at a symmetrically opposite side
of the second loop in parallel to the first strap, the straps being
adapted to be strapped each around one of the baby's shoulders.
It is further advantageous to provide a pair of cross-straps extending parallel to each other between respective locations of the first loop and of the second loop.
Additional characteristics and features of the invention will be more clearly apprehended in the light of the ensuing description of a preferred embodiment thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front, perspective view of the carrier according to a preferred embodiment of the invention; and
Fig. 2 illustrates the method of using the carrier of FIG. 1.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the harness, generally denoted 10, essentially comprises a first, front loop 12 and a second rear loop 14. The loop 12 is provided with tightening means, e.g., a
buckle 16 of any known type by which it is adapted to be tightened around the head of the user on the forehead level, as shown in Fig. 2.
The front portion of the loop 14 is sewed, seemed or otherwise attached to the back portion of the loop 12, at the location 18, so that the loops form together the digit "8".
The loop 14 also includes a buckle 20 for tightening it around the waist of the baby.
It is thus evident that the baby, riding on the shoulders of the user, is safely harnessed to the head of the user, in an
arrangement that does not limit whatsoever the free movement of both the baby's and the user's arms, and does not seclude the view of the baby.
Further option according to the invention is to provide a safety band designated 22, with buckle 22a, adapted to be tightened under the chin of the user, to avoid accidental slipping of the strap 12 off the forehead.
It is further advisable to provide a pair of baby's shoulder-
straps 24a and 24b each with tightening arrangement, such as VELCRO-type fasteners or the like.
According to a still further design option, a pair of cross-
tightening straps 28a and 28b may be used, with buckles 30a
and 32b (VELCRO-type or others) as schematically shown. This arrangement will serve the function of additional anchoring and
stabilization for the extra safety of the baby.
It goes without saying that the harness may form a base for
supporting additional necessary items such as pockets for
feeding bottle and napkins at any suitable locations (not shown).
Thus provided is an extremely low-cost, space-saving in storage and effective baby carrier, which is not only easy to
manufacture, but in fact presents better and healthier argonometrical effect on the user by supporting an upright posture of the head in line with the spine as recommended by medical experts.
Additional changes and modifications may be applied to the invention as exemplified herein without departing from the scope thereof as defined in and by the appended claims.
