Abstract

This invention concerns a middle arm rest (10) for a vehicle seat which has a utility storage compartment (18) and an adjacent cup holder compartment (28) in front of it. The utility storage compartment (18) is stationary in the arm rest (10). The cup holder compartment (28) of the arm rest (10) can be slid between a home position inserted into the arm rest (10) and a position for holding cups extended from the arm rest (10). The arm rest (10) has a lid (14) which can be pivoted about a swivel axis between a fastened position which covers the utility storage compartment (18) and an upwardly tilting position for access.

Description

Center armrest for a vehicle seat

The invention relates to a center armrest for a vehicle seat, which has a utensil stowage compartment and a cup holding compartment adjoining it on the front.

In known center armrests of the type mentioned above, the utensil stowage compartment and the cup holding compartment adjoining it on the front are connected to form a unit. This unit can form an armrest base, on which a cover is provided so that it can pivot. However, it is also possible that said unit of utensil stowage compartment and cup holding compartment adjoining it on the front side is provided such that it can be pushed out of the armrest or pushed into the armrest. A cover is not provided in such an armrest of the latter type.

Regardless of whether such a known center armrest is designed with or without a cover, there is the defect that when the center armrest is designed with a cover, both the utensil stowage compartment and the cup holding compartment are accessible when the cover is opened, and that during the training the center armrest without a cover with a displaceable unit consisting of a utensil storage compartment and a cup holding compartment, the cup holding compartment provided in front of the utensil storage compartment from the armrest must be pushed out if access to the utensil stowage compartment is desired.

The invention has for its object to provide a center armrest of the type mentioned, which does not have the shortcomings described above, i.e. in which the utensil stowage compartment and the cup holding compartment are independently accessible.

This object is achieved according to the invention in a center armrest of the type mentioned at the outset in that the utensil stowage compartment is provided in a fixed manner on the armrest, in that the cup holding compartment on the armrest can be displaced between a rest position inserted into the armrest and a cup holding position protruding from the armrest, and that a lid is provided which can be pivoted about a pivot axis between a closed position covering the utensil storage compartment and an opened access position.

The center armrest according to the invention has the advantage that the utensil stowage compartment is independently accessible from the cup holding compartment and vice versa. Access to the utensil stowage compartment is achieved simply by opening the lid and access to the cup holding compartment is simply effected by pushing it out of the armrest. The cup holding compartment is preferably suitable for holding at least one drinking cup or a standardized can. The utensil stowage compartment serves to hold any utensils that can be loosely arranged in the utensil stowage compartment.

In the armrest according to the invention, a surface element can connect to the front of the utensil stowage compartment, by which the cup holding compartment is covered on the upper side in its inserted rest position and which can be formed with at least one utensil storage recess. In such an embodiment of the armrest according to the invention, it is expedient if the lid is formed on its inner surface with a recess opposite the utensil storage recess, in order to provide space in the utensil storage recess in the surface element and the recess provided on the inner surface of the cover to achieve with a corresponding room height. This space can also be used to store any items of daily use, coins or the like.

In order to create an optimal room height in the utensil stowage compartment, it is expedient if the inner surface of the cover is formed with a recess opposite the utensil stowage compartment.

The cup holding compartment is expediently displaceable by means of a resilient pressure mechanism between the rest position inserted into the armrest and the projecting cup holding position. Such a resilient printing mechanism is known per se, it comes for example from ballpoint pens or the like. to use. With the aid of such a resilient pressure mechanism, the cup holding compartment is reliably fixed in the armrest and, due to low pressure on the cup holding compartment, the same is released from the armrest. After this release, the cup holding compartment can be pushed out of the armrest in a defined manner, after which at least one cup and / or a beverage can or the like can be placed in the cup holding compartment. to be able to position. An armrest of good comfort results if the armrest and the cover are padded. This padding can be formed from a reaction mixture by a plastic foam material. The upholstery is expediently covered by a cover. This cover can be made of a textile material, a natural or synthetic leather or the like. exist, but it can also form an integral part of the upholstery as a plastic skin.

Further details, features and advantages result from the following description of an embodiment of the center armrest according to the invention shown in the drawing in a longitudinal sectional view.

The figure shows a center armrest 10 for one

Vehicle seat which has a base part 12 and a cover 14 which is connected to the base part 12 so as to be pivotable about a pivot axis. This pivotability is indicated by the arcuate double arrow 16. The base part 12 has a stationary utensil stowage compartment 18 which is fixed by a base 20 and a circumferential side wall 22. A surface element 24 protrudes from the front side wall 22 on the front and top. Below this surface element 24, a cup holding compartment 28 is provided on a front section 26 of the base part 12, which is at least approximately flush with the bottom 20 of the utensil stowage compartment 18, which is between a rest position inserted into the armrest, which is shown with solid lines, and one from the armrest protruding cup holder position, which is shown in the figure with thin dashed lines, is displaceable. A cup 30 is shown with thin dashed lines in the cup holding compartment 28 in that with thin dashed lines Cup holding position indicated. The cup holding compartment 28 can be temporarily held in the armrest 10 by means of a known resilient pressure mechanism 32. If the cup holding compartment 28 is located in the armrest 10, the cup holding compartment 28 can be released from the armrest 10 by a small pressure, which is indicated by the arrow 34, ie a pressure (arrow 34) on the cup holding compartment 28 can lock it lifted in the inserted rest position and the cup holding compartment 28, for example by spring action from the

Armrest 10 can be moved into the cup holder position. A further pushing the cup holding compartment 28 out of the armrest 10 is prevented by a corresponding design.

The surface element 24 adjoining the utensil stowage compartment 18 on the front is formed with a utensil storage recess 36. The lid 14 is formed on its inner surface with a recess 38 opposite the utensil storage recess 36. In addition, the lid 14 is formed on its inner surface with a depression 40 opposite the utensil stowage compartment 18.

The base part 12 of the armrest 10 is provided with an upholstery 42 and the cover 14 is provided with an upholstery 44. The upholstery 42 and 44 are each covered with a cover 46, 48.
