Abstract
A rubbish removal and storage device (10) comprising a pair of beams (11) which support a floor (16). The floor (16) provides a cradle (18) surrounding a central aperture (20). A bin (22) is received within the aperture (20), so as to be supported by the cradle (18). The bin (22) has a top (24) which is generally co-planar with respect to the floor (16) so as to provide a platform. The top (24) has a lid (21) which is openable to expose an aperture (20) through which material may be delivered to the interior of the bin (22).
Description
A BUILDING SITE RUBBISH COLLECTION FACILITY TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to building site rubbish collection and disposal facilities. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Previous methods of removing rubbish from a building site have included the installation of a permanent rubbish chute. The chutes were not easy to use and were often unused. They were frequently positioned in awkward places as they were required to protrude from the building. They were difficult to erect and also to remove. Still further, they interfered with closing of the building.
Still further, use of the rubbish chute was dependent on a rubbish bin being located at the foot of the chute. Frequently when a bin was not provided, the rubbish chute remained unused. The chutes were dusty, noisy, large and bulky.
The present invention also relates to the incorporation of a rubbish collection and disposal facility in a landing platform such as that described in Australian Patent 629,397.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the above disadvantages.
There is disclosed herein a rubbish removal and storage device comprising: a frame to extend beyond the periphery of a building and to be supported thereby; a generally horizontally oriented cradle supported by said frame and providing a bin receiving aperture; and wherein said cradle is adapted to receive and support a bin located in said aperture. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A preferred form of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein
Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a landing platform including a rubbish storage facility; Figure 2 is a schematic perspective view of the facility of Figure
1;
Figure 3 is a schematic side elevation of the facility of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a schematic side elevation of the facility of Figure 1 with the bin removed therefrom;
Figure 5 is a schematic sectioned side elevation of the facility of Figure 1 ;
Figure 6 is a top plan view of a frame employed in the facility of Figure 1 ; Figure 7 is a schematic sectioned side elevation of a portion of the facility of Figure 1; and
Figure 8 is a schematic perspective view of a modification of the storage facility of Figure 1.
In the accompanying drawings there is schematically depicted a landing platform 10. The landing platform may be constructed in accordance with the landing platforms described in Australian Patent Application 63026/90.
The landing platform 10 has a pair of substantially parallel beams 11 which project outwardly from a building 12. The building 12 under construction or renovation, is a multi-floored building having floors 13. The beams 11 are supported between adjacent floors 13 by means of vertically extending props 14, as best described in the above entioned Australian application. Extending between the beams 11 are transverse beams 15 which support a floor 16. The floor 16 permits a user to pass from the floor 13 to the floor 16.
The frame 17 including the beams 15, provides a cradle 18 having side members 19. The side members 19 provide a peripheral lip 21 surrounding a central aperture 20.
To be received within the aperture 20 is a rubbish bin 22 which has a hollow bin body 23 closed by a top 24. The top 24 projects (so as to provide supporting flanges) beyond the body 23 so as to engage the lip 21 surrounding the central aperture 20. Still further, the top 24, when resting on the lip 21, is flush with the floor 16. The top 24 is provided with a pivoted door 25 providing access to the interior of the body 23.
The bin 22 is provided with retractable lugs 26 which permit a crane to lift the rubbish bin 22 for installing an empty bin, or removing a full bin.
The top 24 is pivotally mounted on the body 23 so that when the body 23 is suspended from a crane, the lid 24 will part from the body 23 permitting rubbish to flow therefrom under the influence of gravity. This is best seen in Figure 4.
In Figure 8, the platform 10 is modified so that the bins 22 are provided with a chute 26 which enables rubbish to be directed to a lower receiving bin 27.
The above described preferred embodiment of the present invention has the advantages that the rubbish storage facility also acts as a landing platform. The rubbish bin is accessible and is in a prominent, easy to use position. Still further, since the landing platform is easily removed, there is no major dismantling or installation cost. Still further advantages include noise reduction and dust reduction and the facility not detracting from the usable floor area. The landing platform so formed would have sides as illustrated.
Claims
1. A rubbish removal and storage device comprising: a frame to extend beyond the periphery of a building and to be supported thereby; a generally horizontally oriented cradle supported by said frame and providing a bin receiving aperture; and wherein said cradle is adapted to receive and support a bin located in said aperture.
2. The device of claim 1, wherein said frame comprises a pair of substantially parallel transversely spaced beams, and said cradle includes a floor defining said bin receiving aperture.
3. The storage device of claim 2, wherein said cradle includes a lip extending at least partly around said aperture, which lip provides a bin engaging surface upon which the bin is supported.
4. The device of claim 3, wherein said bin engaging surface is generally horizontal and is spaced below a floor surface provided by said floor.
5. The device of claim 4, further including a bin to be received within said aperture and including flange means to rest upon said lip.
