Abstract

A locking device (30) is disclosed for an electrical connector (1) comprising a male end (20) and a female end (50), each having two cylindrical contacts on the same axis such that, after assembly, a flat elastic locking component (323) for the female end (50) consisting of a straight base section (324) with two side parts (325) curved symmetrically towards each other is placed in a straight recess (312) in a locking head (31) of the male end (20) to block longitudinal release movement and prevent relative rotation of the two ends (20 and 50). Said device is particularly intended for use in a tyre monitoring system.

The invention relates to an electrical connector locking device. This device is particularly intended to be inserted into a tire monitoring device.

Such monitoring devices utilize temperature measurements, pressure ... provided by sensors plunging inside the tire, optionally in combination with electronic components. In this application, all sensors and components is called "electrical element". This assembly is secured by a suitable carrier to the rim. The measurements are transmitted to a processing unit and the dashboard by 1'intermédiaire connecting means such as electrical conductors and means for inductive coupling for example.

Must make electrical connections between the electrical element and the connecting means, in particular, between two conductors at the output of the electrical element and the electrical conductors connected to the inductive coupling means disposed in the free space between the fixed parts and mobile hub.

The electrical connection must be established and dismantled easily and unequivocally based on the maintenance requirements of tires and wheels. It must also be able to withstand the conditions of mechanical stress and harsh environment.

The invention relates to an electrical connector lock device resolving the above problems. The locking device of an electrical connector including two male and female ends, each end piece having two contacts a cylindrical shape and a common axis, is characterized in that: a) the cylindrical region of engagement of the spigot in the socket ends, the support side of said spigot end, with a locking head having a longitudinal ramp whose distance relative to the axis of said spigot is increasing followed by a transverse notch; b) the female tip ends on the side of its engagement with the male end by a flange whose inner radius is greater than the largest radius of said locking head of the spigot; said flange maintains an elastic locking piece consisting of a base whose geometry is adapted to that of the transverse groove of said male end of the locking head extended by two curved sides symmetrically towards one another; only said base may be in contact with the head of locking the male connector and its central portion is approximately at a distance from the axis of the female end equal to the radius of the spigot end; c) in the assembled position, the base of said elastic piece of the socket lock is engaged in the transverse notch of said locking head of the male end, blocks the longitudinal disengagement movement and opposes the rotation on the two end pieces; d) unlocking is performed by a forced relative rotation between the two male ferrules and female which gradually remove the base of the elastic piece of the locking notch of the locking head followed by a longitudinal movement of disengagement. Such an electrical connector locking device has the advantage to result in a sensitive and simple locking of the two terminal when locking. Upon engagement of the male end into the female end, the ramp of the locking head progressively deforms the base of the elastic piece of the socket locking until the fall of said base in the notch transverse to the locking head. This blocking of the two end pieces assembled position is effective for any longitudinal disengagement movement, but also opposes relative rotational movements of the two ends. Indeed, such a movement will cause a deformation of the elastic lock piece with a force in the reaction such that rotation is not possible accidentally.

This device also allows easy unlocking by means of a forced relative movement of rotation between the two end pieces followed by an axial clearance.

According to one embodiment, the transverse notch of the head of locking the male connector and the base of the elastic piece of the socket locking are rectilinear.

Another feature of this embodiment of the electrical connector locking device according to the invention consists in that the male end of the locking piece comprises at least one longitudinal flat part whose longitudinal axis is located at a distance of axis of the male end approximately equal to the radius of said spigot and of which the two longitudinal edges are at a distance from said axis of the spigot equal to the largest radius of the locking head. Unlocking is then achieved by performing the socket relative rotation with respect to the male ferrule, whatever the direction, to move the base of the elastic lock piece in contact with a flat surface, followed by a longitudinal disengagement. These flats have the advantage of introducing stable withdrawal positions for which the base of the elastic piece clamping is no longer distorted. This facilitates unlocking.

The main use of the device according to the invention is to ensure the locking of an electrical connector part of a tire monitoring device and connecting two output conductors of an electrical element located in the rim to a connected cable a mobile antenna arranged near the center of the wheel.

An embodiment of the invention is described based on the following accompanying drawings:

Figure 1 shows a partial axial sectional view of the male end 20 of an electrical connector 1. The engagement region, cylindrical, of the male connector 20 in the female end 50 terminates, on the side of the support 40 of spigot 20, with a locking head 31, element of the locking device 30. said locking head 31 has its cross-sections which are part of larger diameters than the rest of the male end 20 and comprises:

- a longitudinal ramp 311 whose distance from the axis of the spigot is increasing followed by a rectilinear transverse notch-312;

- two longitudinal flat surfaces 313 parallel to each other and perpendicular to the slot 312; the two flats 313 are symmetrical with respect to the axis of the spigot end 20 and separated by a distance equal to the diameter of said male end 20 (Figures 2, 3 and 4), the longitudinal edges 315, 316 are in a distance from the axis of the male tip 20 equal to the largest radius of the locking head 31;

- a recess 314 longitudinal outside (Figures 2, 3 and 4).

The locking head 31 is designed to operate in conjunction with the housing 51 of the female end 50 (Figures 5 and 6). The housing 51 terminates on the side of its engagement with the pin connector 20 by a flange 32, which is the element of the locking device 30 forming part of the female end 50. The geometry of said collar 32 fits that of the locking head 31 of the male end 20 and has, at the rectilinear notch 312 a rectilinear notch 321 corresponding extended by an outer annular groove 322; an elastic locking piece 323, flat, rectilinearly extended base 324 by two curved sides 325 towards each other is disposed in said rectilinear notch 321 and groove 322; the collar 32 also has a pin 326 adapted in position and size to the recess 314 longitudinal of the locking head 31 of locking the male connector 20; a ring 327 of plastic material externally surrounds the annular groove 322 and provides sealing.

In this exemplary embodiment, the base 324 of the elastic piece 323 and the locking notches 312 and 321 are straight. However, other geometries are possible provided they are adapted to each other.

Figure 7 shows a partial sectional view of the electrical connector 1 with its ends, male 20 and female 50, in the assembled position. In this position, the rectilinear base 324 of the elastic piece 323 locking the female end 50 is engaged in the rectilinear slot 312 of the locking head 31 of the male connector 20, locks the longitudinal disengagement movements and s precludes relative rotation of the two male and female endpieces 20 50.

The implementation method of the previous locking device 30 is now described by means of Figures 7 and 8: a) the two male fittings 20 and female 50 being placed one opposite the other, so the lug 326 of the flange 32 of the female end 50 is facing

.l'évidement 314 of the male connector 20, the mounting is effected by longitudinal engagement; when the male tip 20 reaches the tip of the cavity 53 of the socket 50, the ramp 311 of the locking head 31 of the male end 20 gradually leads to a deformation of the rectilinear base 324 of the elastic lock piece 323 of the collar 32 of the socket 50 until the elastic piece locking 323 falls into the straight slot 312 carried on the locking head 31 of the spigot 20; this drop results in a sensitive detent;

b) the release is effected by a rotation of a quarter turn of the socket 50 relative to the male end 20 regardless of the direction; this rotation brings out the base 324 of the elastic piece 323 locking the notch 312 and causes the base 324 in contact with one of longitudinal flats 313 which allows uncoupling by longitudinal displacement.

The rotational movement of the female end 50 with respect to the male connector 20 begins cause deformation of the rectilinear base 324 of the elastic piece lock 323, this deformation requires significant effort and can not intervene in operation. Then, when the relative rotational movement is intentionally continued, the force necessary for deforming the rectilinear base 324 increases and then substantially canceled when said base 324 finds an undeformed position in contact with one of the two longitudinal flats 313. These lands therefore have the advantage of providing two stable positions of withdrawal of the male connector 20. The lug 326 of the flange 32 of the socket and the recess 314 associated with the locking head 31 of the locking male end 20 are designed to identify the proper position for locking, they do not prevent the relative rotation of the two ferrules and their axial disengagement after a rotation of 90 °.

The electric element 42 of the truck tire monitoring device is attached to the rim 43 through the support 40 which is also that of the male end 20 of the connector 1. the connector 1 is placed, passing through the disk 47 of the wheel 44 by an opening 49 in the volume 45 bounded by the rim flange 46, the disc 47 of the wheel 44 and the brake members 48 . the end of the connector 1 is thus placed in a protected volume 45 when the wheel 44 manipulated by the rim flange 46 and the disc 47 of the wheel 44. the cable 60 connected to the female end piece 50 is also connected by means of inductive coupling (not shown) located in the free space between the fixed and moving parts of the hub.

Claims

1. A locking device (30) of an electrical connector (1) including two male ends (20) and female (50), each endpiece having two cylindrical contacts and common axis, characterized in that:
a) the cylindrical region of engagement of the male end (20) in the female end (50) terminates, on the support side (40) of said spigot (20) by a locking head (31) having a ramp (311) whose longitudinal distance to the axis of said spigot (20) is increasing followed by a notch (312) cross;
b) the socket end (50) terminates on the side of its engagemnet with the male end (20) by a collar (32) whose inner radius is greater than the largest radius of said locking head (31) of male end (20); said flange (32) maintains an elastic piece locking (323), consisting of UNE base (324) whose geometry is adapted to that of the notch (312) of said locking head (31) of the end piece male (20) extended by two sides (325) bent symmetrically towards each other; only said base (324) may be in contact with the locking head (31) of the male end (20) and has a central portion (328) is approximately at a distance from the axis of the socket (50) equal to the radius of the spigot end (20);
c) in the assembled position, the base (324) of said resilient locking piece (323) of the socket (50) is engaged in the notch (312) of said locking head (31) of the male end (20) blocking the longitudinal disengagement movement and opposes relative rotation of the two end pieces (20, 50);
d) unlocking is performed by a forced relative rotation between the two male ends (20) and female (50) which gradually remove the base (324) of the elastic locking piece (323) of the notch (312) of the locking head (31) followed by a longitudinal movement of disengagement.
2. Locking device (30) of an electrical connector (1) according to claim 1 characterized in that the notch (312) of the locking head (31) of the male end (20) and the base (324) of the elastic locking piece (323) of the socket (50) are rectilinear.
3. Locking device (30) of an electrical connector (1) according to one of claims 1 and 2 characterized in that the locking head (31) of the male end (20) comprises at least one flat ( 313) longitudinal whose longitudinal axis is located at a distance from the axis of the male end (20) approximately equal to the radius of said spigot (20) and the two longitudinal edges (315, 316) are at a distance the axis of the spigot (20) equal to the largest radius of the locking head (31).
4. Operation of the locking device (30) according to one of claims 1 to 3 for an electrical connector (1) forming part of a tire monitoring device and connecting output conductors of an electrical component located in the rim to a cable (60) connected to a mobile antenna placed near the center of the wheel (44).
