Abstract

A bridge construction system includes a first independent longitudinal truss (40) positioned over a first bridge section (2), and a second independent longitudinal truss (40a) positioned over a second section (4). A gantry (50) is movably mounted on the trusses (40, 40a), the gantry (50) having a first leg (210) mounted to the first truss (40) and a second leg (200) mounted to the second truss (40a), the gantry (50) being drivable along the first and second trusses (40, 40a). A gantry drive (940) is provided for controllably driving the gantry (50) along the trusses (40, 40a). A transverse trolley (240) is movably mounted on the gantry (50), the trolley (240) being drivable along the gantry (50) in a direction generally transverse to the longitudinal trusses (40, 40a). The trolley (240) includes a winch (260) for lifting and carrying bridge components to be positioned along the bridge spans over which the longitudinal trusses (40, 40a) are mounted. The trolley (240) is selectively positionable over each of the bridge sections (2, 4).
