Abstract

Package blank respectively package including a base part (1) and adjacent side pieces (6-9). The side pieces (6-9) are connected to each other by means of connecting parts (10-13). The connecting parts are each provided with a diagonal score (22-25). Further interlocking konbs (26-29) are provided on the connecting parts, said knobs engage in recesses (32-35) in said side pieces (7 and 9) when the package blank is erected. The connecting parts extend into the inside of the package and guarantee a tight transition between the side pieces. The glueing process before filling of the package may be eliminated by the interlocking knobs which means saving of energy in joining of the package. Furthermore, the costs of the devices for erecting these packages can be reduced in relation to those devices used for erecting by aid of hot air or hot glue.

Description

Package blank
The present invention relates to a package blank having a base part and side pieces connected thereto by way of scores, as well as to a package produced by means of this blank.
Blanks for packages are known wherein the side pieces must be glued together during joining of the blank to form the package, or during erection of the package, respectively, which necessitates the application of hot glue or, in the case of appropriately coated side pieces, the application of hot air or ultrasonics. All these processes for the joining of the side pieces consume much energy and call for costly installations. Erection with hot air always demands coated cardboard, although coating is not necessary for all types of contents. When using extraneous matter (hot glue) for the erection, the possibility exists of transmission of the taste thereof to the contents.
Further package blanks are known in which the joining of the side pieces is carried out mechanically without glueing. These packages are, however, not leakproof and are, therefore, suitable only for dry contents.
It is an object of the present invention to develop a blank for a package where the connection of the side pieces during
i joining of the blank to form the package is to take place by means of purely mechanical interlocking. Energy-expending procedural steps and the other above-mentioned disadvantages which are inherent during glueing, are to be eliminated and the cost of installations for the joining of the package from the blank are to be reduced. Furthermore, the package is to be leakproof, at least in its base part, and should be suitable in particular also for deep-frozen products which become liquid, at least in part, during thawing. It should be possible to open the package easily by severing the mecha¬ nical interlocking.
This is achieved according to the invention by means of the distinguishing characteristics of patent claim 1. Hereinafter, an exemplified embodiment is disclosed in more detail by way of the attached drawings. In the drawings
Figure 1 shows the blank for the package;
Figure 2 shows the package in partly erected state;
Figure 3 shows the package in a more advanced state of erection; Figure 4 shows a connecting piece with an interlocking knob attached thereto.
The blank has a base part 1 with side pieces 6, 7, 8 and 9 attached thereto by way of four scores 2, 3, 4 and 5. Two side pieces at a time are connected by way of connecting pieces 10, 11, 12 and 13 via scores 14 to 21. Each of the connecting pieces 10 to 13 has a diagonal score 22, 23, 24, 25. Each connecting piece is provided with an interlocking knob 26, 27, 28, 29 on its outer edge, which edge is not connect to a side piece. Two facing side pieces 7 and 9 have reces 32, 33, or 34, 35, respectively, at their outer edges 30 an 31, which edges are not connected by connecting pieces.
A lid part 37 is attached to side piece 6 via a score 36 on the side turned away from the base part 1. Locking pieces 39, 40 are attached via scores 41, 42, 43 on the three othe sides of the lid part 37. The locking piece 40 has a tear- strip 44 extending in its middle region for the opening of package.
In the illustration according to Figure 2, the blank of Fig is partially joined to form the package. The side pieces 6 8 and 9 are erected at approximate right angles to the base part 1. The connecting parts 10 and 13 are folded together about their respective diagonal score 22, or 25, respective and lie against the side piece 9. The interlocking knobs 2 or 29, respectively, engage in the recesses 34 and 35 and a folded over the side piece 9 in an outward direction. This Figure also shows the manner in which the connecting part between side pieces 7 and 8, is folded about its diagonal 2 during the partial erection of the side piece 7. A leakpro transition between the side pieces 6, 7, 8 and 9 is ensured by the connecting parts 10, 11, 12 and 13 folded into the interior of the package.
The package may also be used as a dish without the lid part In Figure 3, the blank is still further joined together, where the interlocking knob is inserted in the appropriate recess in side piece 7 and is folded over in an outward direction.
Figure 4 illustrates another connecting piece with an inter¬ locking knob attached thereto. The interlocking knob has a throat 45 at its end abutting against the connecting part, which throat comes to rest in the respective recess in the side pieces during joining of the packing. The wider part 46 of the interlocking knob is folded over the respective side piece in an outward direction.
The glueing process before filling of the package may be eliminated as a result of the described mechanical interlocking by way of the interlocking knob.
In the case of a package having the lid part 37, the locking pieces 38, 39, 40 of the lid part are glued to the side pieces 7, 8 and 9, once the contents has been placed within. A glue¬ ing process falls away entirely if the lower part of the container is simply used as dish without lid part.
The folding over of the interlocking knobs in an outward direction has the advantage, in contrast to the folding over in an inward direction, that there is no obstacle during filling of the package.
