Abstract
A fastening means for pivotally mounting a cylinder block of a tipping device in bearing lugs fastened to a vehicle frame. The fastening means comprises a base (1) to be fastened to the cylinder block of the tipping device and provided with pivot shafts (3) protruding in opposite directions. Each pivot shaft comprises a bearing shaft (5) fastened to a mounting (4). Said mountings (4) are provided telescopically adjustably in the axial direction in supports (6) formed in the base so that said mountings can be fastened in the base in desired axial positions. In this way, the bearing distance (L) of the pivot shafts is adjustable to correspond to each distance in question between the bearing lugs of the vehicle frame. The mountings (4) of the pivot shafts can be turned around their central axes and positioned in the base in at least two alternate angular positions. The bearing shafts (5) are for this purpose fastened eccentrically in their mountings (4). In this way, the vertical position (H) of the bearing shafts is adjustable with respect to the base.
Description
Fastening means. for a tipping device for a truck
The present invention relates to a fastening means for a tipping device for a truck, said fastening means comprising a base for supporting a cylinder block of said tipping device, said base being provided with two hori¬ zontal pivot shafts extending in opposite directions for pivotally mounting said base on a vehicle frame.
The cylinder block of a tipping device is in general supported on a vehicle frame by means of a special fastening means so as to allow the cylinder block to pivot in the driving direction of the vehicle in a verti¬ cal plane between a raised tipping position and a lowered transport position. For this purpose, a base is rigidly fastened to the lower end of the cylinder block, said base being provided with fixed horizontal pivot shafts extending in opposite directions transversely of the vehicle. Both pivot shafts are pivotally mounted in bearing lugs rigidly fastened on the frame beams of the vehicle to protrude in parallel upwards from the frame beams.
At present there are a number of frame widths and heights, and up to now it has been necessary to manufac¬ ture for each width and for each different positioning of the gearboxes individual base designs in which the fixed pivot shafts are located at a suitable distance from each other and at a suitable height in relation to the bearing lugs with respect to each particular frame construction. In order to reduce the number of designs required, trailer tipping devices have previously been provided with clamping bars which can be sawn or cut into suitable lengths. However, this solves the problem only partly because the fixed height of the pivot shafts often leads to the use of too high bearing lugs which, for example, impairs the tipping stability. In addition, a great number of different bases and pivot shafts causes
a risk of mix-up in the manufacture, shipments, storage and installation.
The object of the present invention is to provide a fastening means which eliminates the above-mentioned disadvantages and permits the use of the same fastening means for a plurality of different frame widths and heights. This object is achieved by means of a fastening means according to the invention which is characterized in that said pivot shafts are mounted in said base axially displaceably towards and away from each other and vertically adjustably with respect to said base.
The invention is based on the idea of making the pivot shafts of the base adjustable both in the axial and vertical direction with respect to the body of the base so that the bearing distance and height of the pivot shafts are adjustable. The pivot shafts are permanently fastened, for example, by welding rigidly to the base body only in connection with the installation of the fastening means when the most preferred bearing distance and height for each particular vehicle frame are known.
According to the invention, the number of different fastening means to be kept available can be substantially reduced because the same fastening means is suitable for a wide range of frame widths and heights. The bearing distance is now always the sane as the width of the vehicle frame, whereas it has earlier been a certain constant distance which has been dimensioned according to the narrowest frame. In connection with post—installa¬ tions, the height of the fastening means of the tipping device can be changed if the tipping device is installed in a new vehicle, or a new platform., gearbox or similar is mounted in the vehicle.
The invention will be described in more detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawings in which

Figures 1, 2 and 3 are front, top and side views, respectively, of a preferred embodiment of a fastening means according to the invention.
Figure 4 is a front view of a separate pivot shaft, Figure 5 is a side view of a second embodiment of the fastening means, and
Figure 6 is a side view of a third embodiment of the fastening means.
The fastening means for a tipping device comprises a box-shaped, hollow base 1 on which a vertical cylinder block 2 of the tipping device is intended to be fastened at its lower end. At opposite ends of the base are arranged pivot shafts 3, each comprising a rectangular box-shaped mounting 4 and a bearing shaft 5 fastened therein. Rectangular hollow supports 6 are formed in the base into which supports the mountings 4 fit with a small sliding clearance. The opposite supports of the base are coaxial with each other and located perpendicularly to the central axis A of the cylinder block. The central axes of the bearing shafts 5 are located eccentrically with respect to the central axes C of the mountings but in the same vertical plane with the axes A and C.
The fastening means is intended for mounting on bearing lugs 7 fastened on a vehicle frame 8 (Figure 2) . Due to the fact that the pivot shafts are axially dis- placeable relative to the base, the bearing distance L of the bearing shafts 5 is easily adjustable to corres¬ pond to the distance between the bearing lugs 7 by pulling the mountings 4 more or less out of the base and by fastening the mountings in the base by welding, bolts, wedges or by means of friction. If necessary, the mount¬ ings for the bearing shafts can be turned upside down around their central axis and fastened in this position in the base whereby the bearing shafts will be located on a higher level H in the base and the base will, accordingly, be positioned on a lower level above the

vehicle frame. The broken lines in Figure 1 illustrate these alternative positions.
The embodiments shown in Figures 5 and 6 differ from the preceding one only with respect tothe mountings 14 and 24, respectively, of the pivot shafts. In Figure 5, the mounting is cylindrical in cross-section whereby the vertical position of the pivot shaft is steplessly adjustable. In Figure 6, the mounting 24 is polygonal in cross-section. Supports 16 and 26, respectively, formed in the base are, of course, similar in shape.
The drawings and the description related thereto are only intended to illustrate the idea of the invention. In its details the fastening means according the inven¬ tion may vary within the scope of the claims.
