Abstract

A method of locating a damage in a pressure pipe-line system consist in placing, at least at three check points of the system, sensors which are responsive to the pressure drop wave arising at the point of damage and propagating through the pumped product. The check points are spaced from each other along the pipe-lines at such maximal distances that, for a preset value of minimal leakage, the pressure drop wave provided at any of the check points would have at the two nearest check points an amplitude sufficient to initiate the sensors placed at these two points and then the time lags of responses of those three sensors, nearest to the points of damage and to which the pressure drop wave comes first, are registered. Then, three groups of possible points of damage are determined depending, correspondingly, on the time lags between the responses of the first and the second, the first and the third, and the second and the third of those sensors and, finally, the real point of damage is located by coincidence of one of the possible points of damage of one of the groups with one of the possibles points of damage of at least one of the two other groups.
