Plant Pat. 9231 UNITED sures PATENT OFFICE 1 V The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant characterized by its exceptional free-blooming and vigorous branching habits of growth, its relative freedom from thorns, the distinctive color of its blossoms, and its ease of propagation.
This new variety most nearly resembles its seed parent but differs dominantly therefrom in respect of the color of the blooms; that is, the
present variety belongs to the Vermilion color range rather than to the copper-orange of its seed parent. This variety also is a much more prolific bloomer, has much more vigor of growth, and is freer flowering than its parents.
' 1 Claim. (01. 47-61) Asexual reproduction of this new variety shows the foregoing characteristics come true to form and are established.
In the accompanying drawings are illustrated specimens of this new rose at different states of development of the flowers.
The following is a detailed description of the new variety, color terminology being in accordance with the Royal Horticultural Society Color Chart, except where otherwise indicated to have ordinary dictionary significance:
Type: Half-hardy; bush; outdoor; seedling; for
cut flowers and garden decoration. Class: Hybrid tea. Breeding: 7
Seed par'ent.--Mrs. Sam McGredy (unpatented). Pollen parent.-Ma1ar Ros (unpatented). Propagation: Holds its distinguishing characteristics through succeeding propagations by cuttings, grafting and budding.
Locality where grown: Van Nuys,-California. Flowers borne: singly to stem; on normal strength, medium length stems. Quantity of bloom: Abundant; outdoors. Continuity: Continuous. Fragrance: Moderate; sweetbriar. Bud: 1
Peduncle.-Long; medium erect; light reddish green; entirely smooth. Before cal /:1: breaks. Size medium. Form--long; pointed, with a conspicuous neck; without foliaceous appendages on the surface of the bud; with much out foliaceous parts extending beyond the tip of the bud equal to one-half or more of its length. Behavior.-Persist; brown.
Flower l0ngevity.-On bush in garden4 days in June. Cut roses grown outdoors, kept at living room temperature-3 days in June.
