' 1 Claim.
My present invention is an improvement of hybrid tea roses in the class producing red flowers, and is the result of definite breeding efforts made by me. The new variety resulted from a cross between Soeur Therese and Signora, the former being the seed parent and the latter the pollen parent.
The most remarkable feature of this new rose variety is the giant size of the flowers since they frequently attain a size of 6 to 7 inches in diameter and even larger at times. Since the plant blooms profusely and continuously a great many of these large flowers are produced, averaging about 40 blooms per season per plant. These remarkable blooming habits coupled with vigorous growth, disease resistance, and colorful substantial petals of the flower make a very outstanding rose variety.
The accompanying illustration which is a part of this specification shows three specimens of the bloom of this variety in various stages of opening, together with some of the stem and foliage. These are in as nearly true colors as the artist could portray them although it must be understood that there may be variations because of circumstances of growth. The original paintings show the flowers slightly reduced in size.
Following is a detailed description of the plant and flower of this new rose variety. Color plate references indicate the Horticultural Colour Chart issued jointly by the British Colour Council and the Royal Horticultural Society of England.
