The present discovery relates to a new and distinctvariety of pear tree, originating as a bud sport of the Gorham variety occurring on a tree now growing on my property.

The primary feature of distinction of this new pear resides in its solid, all-over golden russet color, as contrasted with that of its parent which is clear, pale yellow with very little russeting, ex-

cept in the vicinity of the stem. This russet color is important from a commercial standpoint, because, it prevents the pear from showing bruises and other injuries. In the present instance, the

golden russet color can well be compared to the russet of the Beurr Bosc variety.

This new variety ripens about the same time as does its parent, or from three to four weeks after the Bartlett variety, and keeps from six weeks to two months longer in storage.

While in size, color and shape this new pear resembles the Bartlett, as well as the Gorham, its quality is superior. The flesh is white, tender, buttery and juicy, a combination which with a rich flavor and spicy aroma, makes it one of the best pears of the season.

Asexual reproduction of this new variety shows the foregoingcharacteristics come true to form and are established.

The following is a detailed description of the new variety, the color terminology used herein being in accord with Ridgways Color Standard where indicated; otherwise with general dictionary meaning:
