Abstract
A new Calibrachoa plant named ‘CBRZ0048’ particularly distinguished by medium sized orange flowers with a red eye, begins to flower during 10.5 hours of daylength, has a mounding to semi-trailing plant habit, and grows moderately fast relative to other Calibrachoa varieties and exhibits a spreading habit.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Calibrachoa hybrida.
Varietal denomination: ‘CBRZ0048’.
The present invention comprises a new Calibrachoa, botanically known as Calibrachoa hybrida, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CBRZ0048’.
‘CBRZ0048’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium sized orange flowers with a red eye, begins to flower during 10.5 hours of daylength, has a mounding to semi-trailing plant habit, and grows moderately fast relative to other Calibrachoa varieties and exhibits a spreading habit.
‘CBRZ0048’ originated from a hybridization made in July 2018 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California. The female parent was an unpatented commercial variety ‘Callie Medium Yellow’ with yellow color with no eye, small to medium sized flowers, and is later flowering.
The male parent of ‘CBRZ0048’ was an unpatented proprietary plant known as ‘CALCC4308-8V’ having a light orange flower color with medium orange eye, and has a more upright plant habit.
The resulting seeds were sown in October 2018 and ‘CBRZ0048’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in June 2019 in a controlled environment in Gilroy, California.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CBRZ0046’ was accomplished when vegetative stem cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2019 in a controlled environment in Gilroy, California.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in the summer of 2019, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CBRZ0048’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CBRZ0048’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘CBRZ0048’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘CBRZ0048’ directly from the inventor.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Calibrachoa as a new and distinct variety.

The accompanying photographic drawing shows typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CBRZ0048’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close-up of the flowers and
in FIG. 2 a flowering plant of the new variety.
The aforementioned photographs were taken in May 2023 in a greenhouse in Andijk, The Netherlands.
The measurements and observations were made in October 2023 in Gilroy, California on plants grown outdoor in 35 cm containers. Plants were about 16 weeks of age.
