Abstract
A variety of rose plant of the shrub class, named ‘AUSA6B15’. The ‘AUSA6B15’ is a variety of a rose with yellow medium-sized, cupped blooms having a medium, fruity fragrance in a medium-sized, upright and bushy shrub.
Description
Classification: The present invention relates to a new Rosa hybrida shrub of the market class ‘English Rose’.
Variety denomination: The new plant has the varietal denomination ‘AUSA6B15’.
Origin of invention: This invention relates to a new and distinct variety of shrub rose plant named ‘AUSA6B15’, which was originated from the cross-pollination of the two ‘unnamed’ and unpatented seedlings of Rosa hybrida.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a rose with yellow medium-sized, cupped blooms having a medium, fruity fragrance in a medium-sized, upright and bushy shrub.
Among the features which distinguish the new variety from others presently available and commercial rose cultivars known to the inventor is the following combination of characteristics: medium-sized yellow blooms with a medium, fruity fragrance with hints of lemon, forming a shapely shrub with an upright and bushy shape capable of repeat flowering.
Asexual reproduction of the new variety by budding as performed in Albrighton, United Kingdom shows that the foregoing and other distinguishing characteristics come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding asexual propagations. ‘AUSA6B15’ may be asexually propagated by budding. The budding successfully occurred on an unpatented plant/rootstock Rosa dumetorum ‘Laxa’ for the observed plants.
The maternal and paternal parents of ‘AUSA6B15’ are two unnamed seedlings. The new rose may be distinguished from its seed parent, by the following combination of characteristics: the seed parent has a higher petal count and is less disease resistant when compared to ‘AUSA6B15’. The new rose may be distinguished from its pollen parent, by the following combination of characteristics: the pollen parent has a pink color when compared to ‘AUSA6B15’, which is yellow and shows a different growth habit.
The most similar rose variety is ‘AUSeasel’ (not patented). Both blooms are similar in color, however, ‘AUSeasel’ has a larger flower diameter (approx. 8 cm) when compared to ‘AUSA6B15’ (approx. 6 cm). ‘AUSA6B15’ also has a different number of prickles, with ‘AUSA6B15’ having many-medium reddish prickles, while ‘AUSeasel’ has few-medium yellowish prickles. Finally, anthocyanin coloration of the leaf is present in ‘AUSA6B15’, but is absent in ‘AUSeasel’.
The accompanying photograph illustrates the new variety and shows the flowering thereof from bud to full bloom depicted in color as nearly correct as it is possible to make in a color illustration of the character. Throughout this specification, color references and/or values are based upon The Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society (2001) except where common terms of color definition are employed.
Observations of budded ‘AUSA6B15’ specimens were made at a garden in Albrighton, Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. The following description is of 7-year-old rose plants of the new variety grown in a garden environment in Albrighton, United Kingdom in the month of June. Phenotypic expression may vary with environmental, cultural and climatic conditions, as well as differences in conditions of light and soil.
