Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of Floribunda Rose plant named ‘LIMtropica’ is disclosed, characterized by distinctive orange and pink flowers with a moderate tea rose fragrance. Plants are vigorous and can be grown on their own roots. Plants are compact, flower continuously and exhibit good resistance to blackspot diseases. The new variety is normally produced as an outdoor garden or container plant.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species: Rosa hybrida.
Variety denomination: ‘LIMtropica’.
The new Rosa cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor. The objective of the breeding program was to produce vigorous new garden rose varieties with continuous blooming for ornamental commercial applications. The cross resulting in this new variety was made during June of 2011 in McMinnville, Oregon.
The seed parent is unnamed bicolor Rosa seedling. The pollen parent is the variety Rosa ‘Knock Out’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 11,836. The new variety was selected Aug. 1, 2012 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2011 crossing, in a nursery in McMinnville, Oregon.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar has been performed by vegetative cuttings. This was first performed at a research greenhouse in Vista, California Aug. 15, 2012 and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in more than 5 successive generations.
The cultivar ‘LIMtropica’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘LIMtropica’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘LIMtropica’ as a new and distinct Rosa cultivar:

- 1. Orange and pink colored flowers.
- 2. Vigorous compact habit.
- 3. Early, prolific, continuous blooming.
- 4. Dark glossy foliage resistant to black spot and powdery mildew disease.
- 5. Plants can be grown on their own roots; grafting is not required.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMtropica’ are similar to plants of the seed parent, in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMtropica’ differ in the following:

- 1. The new variety has flower with mixed orange and pink coloration, without a strong definition between the colors. The seed parent has a pink and white bi-color flower with a definition between the colors.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMTROPICA’ are similar to plants of the pollen parent in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMTROPICA’ differs in the following;

- 1. Flower color of the new variety are orange and pink, while flower color of the pollen parent is red.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMtropica’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa ‘MACtrum’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,297. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘LIMtropica’ differs in the following:

- 1. Flower color of the new variety is orange and pink, while the flower color of this comparator is red-orange.
- 2. Plant habit of the new variety is compact, while the plant habit of this comparator is spreading.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘LIMtropica’ can also be compared to the commercial variety Rosa ‘WEKlovapkemu’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 32,109. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘LIMtropica’ differs in the following:

- 1. Flower color of the new variety are orange and pink, while flower color of this comparator is orange and yellow.

The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2007 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘LIMtropica’ plants grown outdoors, in Palm Desert, California. The growing temperature ranged from approximately 10° C. to 38° C. during the day and from approximately 5° C. to 22° C. during the night. Measurements were taken in September. General light conditions were very bright, normal sunlight. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.

- Time to produce a rooted cutting: About 35 days at approximately 20° C.
- Age of plant described: Approximately 1.5 years.

- Plant spread: 45 cm.
- Rootstock: Own root.
- Growth rate: Moderate.
