Abstract
A new Pelargonium plant named ‘PEQZ0094’ particularly distinguished by pink colored inflorescences with semi-double florets, held above dark green foliage, on a vigorous upright, mounding plant.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Pelargonium interspecific.
Varietal denomination: ‘PEQZ0094’.
The present invention comprises a new Pelargonium, botanically known as Pelargonium interspecific, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘PEQZ0094’.
‘PEQZ0094’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar ‘PEQZ0094’ has large pink colored inflorescences with semi-double pink-white florets, held above dark green foliage, on a vigorous upright, mounding plant.
‘PEQZ0094’ originates from a hybridization in a controlled breeding program made in July 2014, in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands. The female parent was a patented plant of P. x hortorum parentage ‘Patriot Rose Pink’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 18,125) with larger florets, lighter green foliage and poorer branching when compared to ‘PEQZ0094’.
The male parent of ‘PEQZ0094’ was an unpatented, proprietary plant of P. x interspecific parentage, identified as ‘PEI-AZ3160-01’, which itself resulted from a cross between P. interspecific ‘PEQZ0008’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 28,423) and P. peltatum ‘Figradol Pink’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 20,562), with a smaller plant habit and less petals per flower when compared to ‘PEQZ0094’. The resultant seed was sown in December 2014.
‘PEQZ0094’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in May 2015 in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘PEQZ0094’ was accomplished when vegetative stem cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2015 in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in June 2015 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘PEQZ0094’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘PEQZ0094’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘PEQZ0094’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘PEQZ0094’ directly from the inventor.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Pelargonium as a new and distinct variety.
The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘PEQZ0094’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 , one flowering plant of the new variety and in
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in late June 2022 under natural light. These plants were approximately 18 weeks old and were grown in a 15 cm pots, in a greenhouse trial. The plant shown in the photograph was about 16 weeks old growing in a 12 cm pot in a greenhouse. The photographs were taken in May 2021.
Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (R.H.S.) 2001.
