Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of Petunia plant named ‘DPETCANP’ is disclosed, characterized by a mounded, compact growth habit, and large dark pink flowers with red-purple veins. The plants are well branched with a medium vigor. The new variety is a Petunia, normally produced as an outdoor garden or container plant.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species: Petunia sensu Wijsman.
Variety denomination: ‘DPETCANP’.
The new Petunia hybrid cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor, Gavriel Danziger in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. The objective of the breeding program was to produce new Petunia varieties with interesting flower color patterns. The cross resulting in this new variety was made during January of 2016.
The seed parent is the unpatented, propriety variety referred to as Petunia ‘cv. 15-1006’. The pollen parent is the unpatented, propriety variety referred to as Petunia ‘cv. 15-1047’. The new variety was discovered in November 2016 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2016 crossing, in a greenhouse in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. Date of first sale was Oct. 14, 2018, occurring in Italy. This sale was made directly by the inventor or one who obtained the claimed invention directly or indirectly from the inventor. This sale and all public disclosures made between Oct. 14, 2018 and the filing of this application fall within the exception allowed under 102(b)(1).
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ was first performed by terminal vegetative cuttings during December of 2016, at a greenhouse in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. Subsequent asexual propagation by terminal vegetative cuttings has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in more than 25 successive generations.
The cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘DPETCANP’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘DPETCANP’ as a new and distinct Petunia cultivar:

- 1. Mounded, compact growth habit.
- 2. Very well branched plant with medium vigor.
- 3. Flower color is dark pink with red-purple veins.
- 4. Large flowers.
- 5. Abundant flowering.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ are similar to plants of the seed parent, Petunia ‘cv. 15-1006’ in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ differ in the following;

- 1. The new variety has a mounded growth habit, while the seed parent is semi-trailing.
- 2. The new variety is very well branched plant with medium vigor, while the seed parent is moderately branched with low vigor.
- 3 New variety has dark pink flowers with red-purple veins, while the seed parent has pink flowers with purple veins.
- 4. New variety has larger flowers than the seed parent.
- 5. New variety flowers more abundantly than the seed parent.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ are similar to plants of the pollen parent in most horticultural characteristics however, plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ differ in the following;

- 1. The new variety has a mounded growth habit, while the pollen parent is semi-upright.
- 2. The new variety is very branched plant, while the pollen parent is medium-branching.
- 3. New variety has dark pink flowers with red-purple veins, while the pollen parent has light pink flowers.
- 4. New variety has larger flowers than the pollen parent.
- 5. New variety flowers more abundantly than the pollen parent.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ can be compared to the commercial variety Petunia ‘DPECAPBURG’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 29,340. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics; however, ‘DPETCANP’ differs in the following:

- 1. Growth habit of the comparison variety is semi trailing, while the new variety has a mounded growth habit.
- 2. Flower color of the comparison variety is purple, while the new variety has dark pink flowers with red-purple veins.
- 3. The flower of the comparison variety has a violet-blue throat, while the new variety has cream-white throat with brown veins.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DPETCANP’ can also be compared to the commercial variety Petunia ‘DPECAPNKLC’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 30,929. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics; however, ‘DPETCANP’ differs in the following:

- 1. Flower color of the comparison variety is light pink with purple veins, while the new variety has dark pink flowers with red-purple veins.
- 2. The flower of the comparison variety has a dark violet throat, while the new variety has cream-white throat with brown veins.
The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a typical plant of ‘DPETCANP’ grown in a greenhouse, in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel.
The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Mini Colour Chart 2005 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘DPETCANP’ plants grown in greenhouse in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel, under natural lighting. Measurements were taken during April of 2019. The plants were approximately 60 days from a rooted cutting in a 13 cm pot. The growing temperature ranged from 20° C. to 35° C. during the days, 17° C. to 23° C. during the nights. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
