Abstract

A new and distinct Gypsophila cultivar named ‘DGYPMILCS’ is disclosed, characterized by a medium flower size commercially, measuring on average 7 mm in diameter and 2 mm in depth, plant size around 100 cm tall and a clustered inflorescence. The new variety is a Gypsophila, suitable for cut flower production and outdoor garden or container uses.

Description

Latin name of the genus and species: Gypsophila paniculata.
Variety denomination: ‘DGYPMILCS’.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The new Gypsophila cultivar is a product of chance discovery by the inventor, Gavriel Danziger. The new variety was discovered as a single plant seedling growing in a cut flower field of existing unnamed, unpatented Gypsophila paniculata varieties in Moshav Mishmar-Hashiva, Israel, in April 2013.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘DGYPMILCS’ was first performed by basal vegetative cuttings during June of 2015, at a greenhouse in Moshav Mishmar-Hashiva, Israel. Subsequent propagation has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in multiple successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The cultivar ‘DGYPMILCS’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘DGYPMILCS’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘DGYPMILCS’ as a new and distinct Gypsophila cultivar:
    • 1. Medium sized flower diameter, commercially. Measuring on average 7 mm in diameter and 2 mm in depth.
    • 2. Medium plant height of around 100 cm.
    • 3. Clustered inflorescence.
PARENT COMPARISON
The new variety was discovered as a chance seedling among several unnamed Gypsophila paniculata varieties, parent variety cannot be identified.
COMMERCIAL COMPARISON
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DGYPMILCS’ can be compared to the commercial variety Gypsophila ‘DANGYPMINI’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 10,964. The varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics; however, ‘DGYPMILCS’ differs in the following:
    • 1. The new variety has smaller flowers than this comparator.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘DGYPMILCS’ can also be compared to the variety Gypsophila ‘DGYP4416’, unpatented. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics; however, ‘DGYPMILCS’ differs in the following:
    • 1. The new variety grows more slowly than this comparator.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a flowering stem of ‘DGYPMILCS’ grown outdoors in Moshav Mishmar-Hashiva, Israel.
FIG. 2 illustrates in full color a close-up view of flowers of ‘DGYPMILCS’.
Plants in the photographs are approximately 4 months old. The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.
DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Mini Colour Chart 2005 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘DGYPMILCS’ plants grown in a greenhouse in Moshav Mishmar-Hashiva, Israel. Measurements were taken during Spring of 2015. The plants were approximately 4 months old. The growing temperature ranged from approximately 12° C. to 25° C. day and night. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.

  • Time to rooting: 21 to 28 days at approximately 20° C.
  • Root description: White and fibrous. Color not accurately measured with R.H.S. colour chart.
