Abstract
A new Chrysanthemum plant named ‘CIDZ0093’ having yellow daisy-type inflorescences, excellent flower production, very vigorous growth and spreading plant habit, and very uniform flowering with response time of 7.5 weeks when grown under short days.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum x morifolium.
Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0093’.
The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum x morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0093’.
‘CIDZ0093’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has yellow daisy-type inflorescences, excellent flower production, very vigorous growth and spreading plant habit, and very uniform flowering with response time of 7.5 weeks when grown under short days.
‘CIDZ0093’ originates as a natural whole plant mutation discovered among flowering plants of ‘C0135’ growing in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. in November 2015.
The parent ‘C0135’ is an unpatented proprietary breeding line and having inflorescences of a pale pink hue under usual conditions, differing from ‘CIDZ0093’ which has yellow inflorescences.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0093’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in February 2016 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated February, 2016, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0093’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CIDZ0093’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity arid day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar was applied for in Canada on Nov. 19, 2018, No. 15582. ‘CIDZ0093’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘CIDZ0093’ directly from the inventor.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.
The accompanying photographic drawing shows typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0093’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type. The photographic drawing shows in FIG. 1 a close-up view of the inflorescence of the new variety and in FIG. 2 a whole flowering plant grown in a greenhouse.
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Gilroy, Calif. in November 2018 on about 12 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots on Aug. 22, 2018. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Sep. 19, 2018 to induce flowering.
The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 was taken in Gilroy, Calif. in November 2018, and showing a plant from a trial, in which flowering had been induced by applying black cloth.
These plants were about 12 weeks of age. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots. The plants were pinched and moved to short days to induce flowering.
