Abstract

A new Campanula plant named ‘CIPZ0003’ particularly distinguished by large, wide open, blue and white bicolored, star-shaped flowers, an early and floriferous flowering response, grass-green foliage with cordate leaves, medium vigorous growth, good-branching ability, compact, rounded mounding and even plant habit, is disclosed.

Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Campanula interspecific.
Varietal denomination: ‘CIPZ0003’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of Campanula, botanically known as Campanula interspecific and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘CIPZ0003’. The new cultivar originated from an open pollination made in February 2007 in Andijk, The Netherlands
The female parent was ‘C08-0005-1’, a proprietary (unpatented) white-flowered Campanula isophylla plant, with bigger flowers, but less of them and a more vigorous habit, while the male parent was unknown.
The seeds produced by the hybridization were sown in August 2008 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands and the resulting seedlings were selected in January 2009. A single plant selection was chosen for further evaluation and for asexual propagation in 2009.
The new cultivar was created in 2009 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands and has been asexually reproduced repeatedly by vegetative cuttings and tissue culture in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands over a four year period. The present invention has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics through successive asexual propagations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new cultivar when grown under normal horticultural practices in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands
  • 1. Large, wide-open, blue and white bicolor, star-shaped flowers;
  • 2. An early and floriferous flowering response;
  • 3. Grass-green foliage with cordate leaves;
  • 4. Good branching ability;
  • 5. Medium vigorous growth;
  • 6. A compact, rounded, even and mounding plant habit.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
This new Campanula plant is illustrated by the accompanying photographs which show overall plant habit including blooms, buds, and foliage of the plant. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. The photographs are of 4 month old plants grown in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in July 2013.
FIG. 1 shows the overall plant habit, including blooms, buds, foliage, and plant habit.
FIG. 2 shows a close-up of the mature inflorescences.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW CULTIVAR
The following detailed description sets forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘CIPZ0003’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands. The plant history was taken on 13 week old plants that were once pinched. The plants were in 12 cm pots.
Color readings were taken under natural light. Color references are primarily to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.) (2001).
