Abstract
A new Calibrachoa plant named ‘CBRZ0001’ particularly distinguished by medium-sized, purple-pink to light pink flowers with a distinct dark-red ring or ‘eye’, induction of flowering at a minimum day length of 12 hours, medium green foliage, relatively little PH sensitive, good branching, and a compact, semi-trailing plant habit.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Calibrachoa Llave & Lex.
Varietal denomination: ‘CBRZ0001’.
The present invention comprises a new Calibrachoa, botanically known as Calibrachoa hybrida, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CBRZ0001’.
‘CBRZ0001’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium-sized, purple-pink to light pink flowers with a distinct dark-red ring or ‘eye’, induction of flowering at a minimum day length of 12 hours, medium green foliage, relatively little PH sensitive, good branching, and a compact, semi- trailing plant habit.
‘CBRZ0001’ originated from a hybridization made in March 2008 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif., USA. The female parent was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated ‘1644C-1’ with pale pink color flowers with an eye, having a lighter hue of pink flower color and a less compact plant habit than ‘CBRZ0001’.
The male parent of ‘CBRZ0001’ was an un-patented proprietary plant identified as ‘1619-2’ with pink flowers with an eye, that has a slightly more trailing plant habit and requires a longer day length for induction of flowering than ‘CBRZ0001’.
The resulting seeds were sown in July 2008 and ‘CBRZ0001’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in September 2008 in a controlled environment in Gilroy, Calif.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CBRZ0001’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in late fall of 2008 in a controlled environment in Gilroy, Calif.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in the spring of 2009, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CBRZ0001’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CBRZ0001’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar was applied for in the European Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) on Nov. 14, 2013, No. 2013/2868. ‘CBRZ0001’ has not been made publicly available more than one year prior to the filing of this application.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Calibrachoa as a new and distinct variety.
The accompanying photographic drawing shows typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CBRZ0001’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type. The photographic drawing shows in FIG. 1 . a close view of a flower, and in FIG. 2 . a whole flowering plant.
The aforementioned photographs were taken (FIG. 1 ) on Apr. 30, 2010 from plants growing in a greenhouse trial in Hillscheid, Germany, and (FIG. 2 ) in Andijk, the Netherlands, in the summer of 2014. These plants were about 15-16 weeks of age.
