Abstract

A new Chrysanthemum plant named ‘CIDZ0065’ and particularly distinguished by the very small, deep purple with white stripes, daisy-type inflorescences, small foliage, compact freely branched plant growth habit, and a flowering response of 6.5 weeks.

Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum×morifolium.
Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0065’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum×morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0065’.
‘CIDZ0065’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has very small, deep purple with white stripes, daisy-type inflorescences, small foliage, compact freely branched plant growth habit, and a flowering response of 6.5 weeks.
‘CIDZ0065’ originates as a natural occurring whole plant mutation of the unpatented, proprietary plant designated ‘D0261’, with solid dark purple inflorescences. ‘CIDZ0065’, the mutated plant with dark purple inflorescences with white stripes, was discovered and selected by the inventor as a single flowering plant within a large population of the parent cultivar grown in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. in March 2010.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0065’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2010 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in November 2010 and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0065’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CIDZ0065’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photographic drawings show typical inflorescence and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0065’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close-up of the inflorescence, and in FIG. 2 a flowering plant grown in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. in September 2012.
DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Nipomo, Calif. on Aug. 14, 2014 on about 9.5 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 3 plants per pot, in 5 inch pots on May 31, 2014. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Jun. 23, 2014 to induce flowering.
The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 were taken in Gilroy, Calif. in September 2012, and showing a plant from a trial, in which flowering had been induced by applying black cloth. These plants were about 9.5 weeks of age. Three unrooted cuttings had been planted in a 5 inch pot early July 2012, then pinched and moved to short days three weeks later.
