Abstract

A new Dianthus plant particularly distinguished by red flowers with white margins and an upright form, is disclosed.

Description

Genus and species: Dianthus caryophyllus.
Variety denomination: ‘KLEDP14205’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Dianthus, botanically known as Dianthus caryophyllus, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEDP14205’. ‘KLEDP14205’ originated from a branch mutation of the proprietary mutation parent ‘DCP 2010-1006’ (unpatented) in May 2010 in in a greenhouse in Italy.
In June 2010, ‘KLEDP14205’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative cuttings. ‘KLEDP14205’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation in Stuttgart, Germany via vegetative cuttings.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.
    • 1. Red flowers with white margins; and
    • 2. An upright form.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Dianthus plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph of a plant approximately 5-months old and grown in a glass greenhouse in Stuttgart, Germany. The photograph shows the whole plant, including the flowers and foliage and buds and was taken in May 2012 in Stuttgart, Germany. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEDP14205’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on 5-month old plants grown in a greenhouse. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5th edition (2007).
