Abstract
An Osteospermum variety named ‘KLEOE09164’ particularly distinguished by a very early flowering time, a very compact growth habit, and excellent branching, is disclosed.
Description
Genus and species: Osteospermum ecklonis Norl.
Variety denomination: ‘KLEOE09164’.
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Osteospermum, botanically known as Osteospermum ecklonis Norl., and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEOE09164’. The new variety originated from an open pollination made in August 2005 in Stuttgart, Germany. The female parent was a proprietary Osteospermum plant named ‘KLEO03106’ (unpatented), and the male parent was an unknown Osteospermum plant (unpatented).
The new variety was first propagated via vegetative cuttings in May 2006 in Stuttgart, Germany and has been asexually reproduced repeatedly by vegetative cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany for more than 15 generations. The present invention has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics through successive asexual propagations via vegetative cuttings.
Plant Breeder's Rights for this variety have not been applied for. ‘KLEOE09164’ has not been made publicly available or sold more than one year prior to the filing date of this application.
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of the new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.

- 3. Excellent branching.
This new Osteospermum plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows a close-up of a flower of the plant. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. The photograph was taken in Summer 2009 of a 7-month-old plant in the field in Stuttgart, Germany, under conditions which approximate those generally used in commercial practice.
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEOE09164’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. The plant history was taken in Summer 2009 on 7-month-old plants which were potted at 4 weeks in 12 centimeter containers and then planted in the ground in calendar week 20. The plants were pinched once at 6 weeks. Color readings were taken under natural light. Color references are primarily to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), Fifth Edition (2007).
