Description
Jan. 19, 1960 E. S. BOERNER ROSE PLANT Filed May 25, 1959 Plant Pat. 1,900
ROSE PLANT Eugene S. Boerner, Newark, N.Y., assignor to Jackson &
galiins Company, Newark, N.Y., a corporation of New The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the hybrid tea class, which was orlginated by me by crossing the variety Golden Masterpiece (Plant Patent N01 1284) with the variety Tawny Gold (Plant Patent No. 950).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety similar to that of the parent Golden Masterpiece, but with flowers of superior fragrance. This objective was fully achieved, along with other desirable improvements, as evidenced by the following umque combination of characteristics which are outstand mg in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents,v as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
(I) A vigorous habit of growth;
(2) A strong flower fragrance corresponding to Old Rose perfume (centifolia); and
(3) Apdistinctive general color tonality of the flowers, corresponding to Cartridge Buff, lightly overcast with Eosine Pink, and with Cadmium Orange at the base of the petals.
Asexual reproduction of my new variety by budding, as performed at Newark, New York, and also at Pleasanton, California, shows that the aforementioned characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations- Y The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of my new variety in diflerent stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new variety, with color terminology in accordance with Ridgeways Color Standards and Nomenclature:
