Abstract
A Plectranthus plant named ‘Sumcol 03’ particularly characterized by its strong fragrance and compact, rounded shape. The plant has shown resistance to botrytis, snails, and caterpillars. Animals, such as cats and dogs, avoid the present plant because of its strong fragrance.
Description
Botanical classification: Plectranthus hybrid.
Varietal denomination: ‘Sumcol 03’.
The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of Plectranthus hybrid known by the varietal name ‘Sumcol 03’.
The new cultivar was discovered in a cultivated area as a naturally occurring and spontaneous branch mutation of Plectranthus hybrid ‘Sumcol 01’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. PP13,843). The new variety was discovered in June of 2002 in Lüdinghausen, Germany.
‘Sumcol 03’ has a similar fragrance to ‘Sumcol 01’, but has different colored leaves.
The first asexual reproduction of the new variety took place in Lüdinghausen, Germany in August 2002 by cuttings. Continued observations of the vegetative cuttings have confirmed that the distinguishing features of the new cultivar remain stable and true to type through successive asexual propagations.
The accompanying photographic drawing illustrates the new cultivar, the color being as nearly true as possible with color illustrations of this type.
The following detailed description sets forth the characteristics of the new cultivar. The data which defines these characteristics was collected indoors in Lüdinghausen, Germany on a partly cloudy day. Color references are primarily to the 2001 R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance were used.
