Abstract
Hybrid tea rose plant having long flower life both on the plant and in the vase; thick petal substance; bright yellow tipped with orange flower color; and spicy fragrance.
Description
Genus and species: Rosa hybrida.
Variety denomination: ‘JACzeman’.
The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of a hybrid tea rose plant named ‘JACzeman’ which was originated by me by crossing an unnamed, unpatented seedling (seedling×seedling), with the unpatented variety ‘AROgoru’ (Baron G. de l'ain×unknown).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety having the tall upright plant and yellow and orange flower color of the female parent combined with the long flower life and large bloom production of the male plant.
The objective was substantially achieved, along with other desirable improvements, as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics that are outstanding in the new variety and that distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
-
- 1. Long flower life both on the plant and in the vase.
- 2. Thick petal substance.
- 3. Bright yellow tipped with orange flower color.
- 4. Spicy fragrance.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by budding, as performed at Wasco and Somis, Calif., shows that the foregoing and all other characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
In the subject variety the female parent is a tall yellow, orange and pink blend hybrid tea, and the male parent ‘AROgoru’ is a light pink hybrid tea. JACzeman has no pink in its blooms.
The closest varieties are ‘AROyqueli’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5177 ) (Gold Medal) and its sport ‘STARqueli’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 8861) (Magic Lantern). ‘JACzeman’ differs from these two varities in having a deeper yellow color, smaller open blooms and lasts on the plant and in the vase for 3-5 days longer.
The accompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of this new variety in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color descriptions using terminology in accordance with The Royal Horticultural Society (London) Colour Chart© 2001, except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.
